Obituary

Richard A. Maines, formerly of Telford, PA, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2020, at the Community at Rockhill, West Rockhill Township, PA.  He was 92.

He was the husband of nearly 58 years of the late Emily "Ida" (Smith) Maines until her passing on July 11, 2014.

Born in Hopkinton, RI, he was the son of the late Charles Edward and Marion Elizabeth (Niles) Maines.

A U. S. Army Veteran of World War II, he served with the Signal Corps and was stationed in Korea.

Mr. Maines attained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island in 1951.

Upon his college graduation, Mr. Maines was employed by the former Philco-Ford Co., Lansdale, PA, from 1951 until 1963.  Then, he worked for the former Zenith Co., Lansdale, for eight years, and, after that, for the former AMETEK, Inc., U. S. Gauge Division, Sellersville, PA, for a number of years.  He also worked at the former Jonn's Furniture Store, Montgomeryville, PA.  Lastly, he was named the head custodian at the York Avenue Elementary School, Lansdale, in the North Penn School District where he worked for seven years until retiring in 1992.

He was of the Baptist faith.

An avid photographer, Mr. Maines was talented at woodworking particularly in building and refinishing furniture.  He also took pleasure in tutoring his nieces and nephews to assist them in being accepted into and succeeding in college.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews, including Deborah Slemmer and her husband Fred, of Perkasie, PA, and Linda DeSilvis and her husband Nicholas, of Blue Bell, PA; and many great nieces and nephews.  In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Thomas Maines, and two sisters, Pearl Webster and Lois McKay.

Funeral Services and interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1818 Market Street, Suite 2820, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
