Mark W. Helman, of Perkasie, PA, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021, at his home. He was 66.
He was the dedicated husband of Elizabeth Helman. The couple had celebrated their 34 th Wedding Anniversary on June 21, 2020.
Born in Lansdale, PA, he was the son of the late G. Wayne III and Mary Ann "Molly" (Wieand) Helman.
A 1972 graduate of Pennridge High School, Perkasie, Mark attained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. Throughout his career, he worked for various organizations supporting those with intellectual disabilities.
Mark was a very dedicated member of his community. He was a member of Gwynedd Friends Meeting, Gwynedd, PA, where he served on the Committee of the Gwynedd Meeting House. He also served on the Board of the United Friends School, Quakertown, PA. In addition, Mark served on the Board of the Pennridge-Quakertown Sports Hall of Fame and was also an elected Democratic Committee Person representing the First Ward in Perkasie Borough.
Mark loved flowers, tending to his garden and hiking. A history enthusiast, he was fond of traveling especially out West and to the Grand Canyon. A true "people person", he was a dedicated humanitarian and had a passion for "giving back". He was very passionate about the arts and a frequent visitor of the Philadelphia Art Museum, a hobby passed on to him by his father. Mark loved all genres of music and enjoyed attending concerts as well as the orchestra. He was a regular at Pennridge football games, and his passion for athleticism was further exemplified by his yearly attendance at the Penn Relays.
Loving father of three children, Alicia Panko and her husband Michael, of Maryland, Ashley Wagenmann and her husband George, of Pennsylvania, and Ian Helman, of Perkasie; three grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Michael Ridpath and his wife Barbara, of England; and three nieces and nephews, Julia, Laura and Nicholas Ridpath. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Candy Ann Helman Ridpath.
His Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at the Gwynedd Friends Meeting Cemetery, 1101 Dekalb Pike, Gwynedd, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Friends School, 1018 West Broad Street, Quakertown, PA 18951, or to Gwynedd Friends Meeting, 1101 DeKalb Pike, Gwynedd, PA 19454.
Arrangements are by the Bernard Suess Funeral Home, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA.
