Carlos Augstroze, of Riegelsville, PA, passed away suddenly on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at his home. He was 89.
He was the loving husband of Inta Solveiga (Čukurs) Augstroze. The couple celebrated their 62 nd wedding anniversary on September 12, 2021.
Born in Presidente Prudente, Brazil, he was the son of the late Rev. Dr. João and Hilda (Viks) Augstroze.
After his 1958 honorable discharge as Specialist 3 rd Class from the US Army, where he served in the Transportation Corps in the Panama Canal Zone, Mr. Augstroze started with Delta Airlines in 1959, loading baggage onto propeller passenger airplanes on the night shift at Idlewild Airport, now known as JFK, in New York City. He worked his way up the ladder, retiring in 1997 as Vice President of International Marketing. He was subsequently Senior Vice President of International Marketing at Transbrasil Airlines.
A lifelong devout Christian, he was a board member and vice-chairman of the Union of Latvian Baptists in America, and a longstanding member of the Bucks County Latvian Baptist Church, Quakertown (Applebachsville), PA where he served as the church organist, deacon, church council member, and sang bass in the church choir.
An avid gardener, he also enjoyed working on and repairing automobiles.
Surviving with his wife is a son, Ralf Augstroze and his wife Silvia, of Haycock Twp.; two grandchildren, Lija Augstroze Hanzovska and her husband Ēriks, and Armand Augstroze and his wife Casey; two great grandchildren, Olivia and Alise Hanzovska, and one on the way, and four sisters, Anna, Ausma and her husband Ary, Wilma and her husband Gilberto, and Valda, all of Brazil. He was preceded in death by two brothers, João Jr. and Walter Augstroze.
His memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at the Bucks County Latvian Baptist Church, 1142 Apple Road, Quakertown, PA, where family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
Interment will be held at a later date in the Augstroze family plot in Paltmale Cemetery, Līgatne, Latvia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bucks County Latvian Baptist Church, c/o Silvia Augstroze, P.O. Box 886, Richlandtown, PA 18955.
Arrangements are by the Bernard Suess Funeral Home, Inc., Perkasie, PA.
