Tregaskis
October 22, 1931 – October 11, 2023
William Jones Tregaskis, of Perkasie, PA, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2023, at his home. He was 91.
He was the loving husband of 57 years of Evelyn Ruth (Spare) Tregaskis until her passing on January 27, 2022.
Born 1931 in Parsons PA, he was the son of the late William S. and Ada S. (Jones) Tregaskis. Mr. Tregaskis was known throughout his lifetime by his Boy Scout nickname "Trig." He was graduated from Coughlin High School in 1949. In his younger years "Trig" taught nature study and conservation requirements to Boy Scouts at Camp Acahela in the Pocono area and at the National Training School for Professional Scouters (Schiff Reservation, New Jersey) for over a period of twenty years.
Bill earned his undergraduate degree at East Stroudsburg University with concentrations of study in Biological Science, Education, Ecology, and Physical Geography. He served as the president of Alpha Phi Omega [Scouting Fraternity] and ESU Nature Club. He graduated with honors and earned memberships in Sigma Zeta Tau [science honor society] and Gamma Theta Upsilon [honor geographic society]. Graduate degrees (MS, FRC, PsD) and certificates on graduate levels included concentrations in Ecology, Forestry, Field Botany, Conservation [now called Environmental Science] Education, Biochemistry, Radiobiology, and Ecumenical Spiritual Philosophy. He also studied at East Stroudsburg University, Cornell University, Simmons Boston College, Rutgers University, University of Utah, Manhattan Kansas State College, and West Chester University. Bill served in the United States Army Signal Corps first stationed at Fort Riley Kansas and later near Pisa, Italy.
During his adult life "Mr. T." taught on all levels of education except elementary before his retirement from teaching Academic Biology and Research Methods in Biological Science in the Central Bucks High Schools for thirty years. After his "retirement" he taught Nature Study and Environmental Education topics to children and adults at Peace Valley Nature Center (Doylestown) for fifteen years. He also taught botany and conservation at Bowman's Hill (New Hope) Wildflower Preserve for thirty-two years. He was involved with the training of 'Naturalists' for both organizations.
Long term-memberships included the Ancient and Mystical Order of the Rose Cross [Rosicrucian], The Academy of Spiritual and Consciousness Studies, The American Nature Society, The [Cayce] Association for Research and Enlightenment, The Institute of Noetic Sciences, National Wildlife Federation, The Nature Conservancy, Friends of Peace Valley, Christian Parapsychologists, Boy Scouts of America, Friends of Bowman's Hill Wildflower Association, Poets of Peace Valley and the Presbyterian Church at Deep Run.
Trig's passions were for teaching and gardening. He maintained a teaching botanical garden that has been registered as a National Wildlife Habitat Garden which included nature trails for Boy and Girl Scouts as well as meditation trails at Onewoods, Perkasie PA. The gardens were listed with the Heritage Conservancy of Bucks County as a "Significant Natural Area".
He was married to Evelyn Ruth (Spare) Tregaskis for fifty-seven years at the time of her death in January 2022. He is survived by a brother James David , daughters Debra Tregaskis, and her husband Ralph Hawkins and Diane Tregaskis Larson, and her husband Eric, and four grandchildren Amelia, Garrett, Thomas, and Carter. He is also survived by a niece, Susan Tregaskis Hughes and her husband Keith, and a great nephew Collin.
Services will be held privately. The family will reach out to loved ones about service information.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Peace Valley Nature Center, 170 N. Chapman Rd, Doylestown, PA, 18901.
