July 15, 1920 – April 30, 2022
William R. "Bill" Murphy, 101, of West Rockhill Twp., PA, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at The Community at Rockhill in West Rockhill Twp., PA.
He and his beloved wife Ethel "Winnie" (Kurz) Murphy would have celebrated their 11 th wedding anniversary in October.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late William M. and Elvira Jean (Eckert) Murphy. He was a 1939 graduate of J. Horace Landis High School in Schwenksville, PA.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served his country during WWII.
He was employed as an engineer for Philadelphia Electric Company for many years.
Mr. Murphy attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Telford. He served as the President of the Philadelphia Chapter of Mensa, the High IQ Society. He loved taking trips on his 32' sailboat, docking in whatever location he was working, and commuting daily from the dock. He also enjoyed tinkering around the house. Bill was an early computer tech, working on his TRS-80, one of the earliest home computers, with the database he wrote in Basic. Bill loved music. He was a tenor in his high school musical, The Mikado, and he sang with Singing City, once appearing on stage with Maria Callas.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Patricia Rich Arnett of Boyertown, a son, Ross Murphy, six grandchildren, and close friends, Willy, and Tina Dahms of Collegeville. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Murphy, and his second wife, Marianna Murphy.
Memorial Services will be held on Thursday May 19, 2022at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of The Community at Rockhill, 3250 State Rd., Sellersville, PA 18960.
