William H. Krause, 86, of the Lutheran Community at Telford, formerly of Sellersville and Upper Black Eddy peacefully passed away, Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the Lutheran Community Skilled Nursing Center. He was the beloved husband, and best friend to his wife, Phyllis, for 64 years. Born in Philadelphia, on November 13, 1935, he was the only child of the late William H. Krause and Dora (Page'). He is survived by his devoted son William N. Krause (Linda) and two grandchildren. He was very proud of his grandchildren: William J. Krause of Gilbertsville and 2 nd Lt. Laura A. Krause AMEDD of Indiana.
Bill loved riding Motorcycles, working on cars, and tending to his vegetable garden in his spare time. He joined the Navy Reserves in 1953 during the Korean War and served for a short time on the USS New Jersey (BB-62). He joined the Philadelphia Police department in 1960 and served for just short of twenty years. He had many adventures during his years, and lots of stories to tell. He served on the Highway Patrol as a Sergeant for a couple of years and rode his motorcycle in the Hero Thrill Show. He, along with other Motorcycle officers from his squad, worked on a movie; Where Angels Go Trouble Follows , made in Philadelphia with Rosalind Russell and Stella Stevens. You had to see it twice to catch Bill in the movie, he went by so fast.
He was promoted to Lieutenant, and was assigned to lead the pistol range, later he transferred to the newly formed elite Stakeout unit. The unit is now known as S.W.A.T, and among other responsibilities, guarded many important people visiting the city, and Bill got to meet many dignitaries, including presidents.
On August 8,1978, Bill was involved in serving a warrant to arrest the radical group called "Move". The police were fired upon, and Bill was shot while trying to save another officer from being pushed into the line of fire. Bill along with other officers was seriously wounded and spent many years recovering. His injuries left him partially disabled, unable to work again, and he had to retire in 1980. He was awarded an Official Commendation for Valor for his actions on that day. Bill was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Michael Lutz lodge #5, The Artisans Order of Mutual Protection, and a Life member of the NRA.
