Obituary

Following, as ever, his own path, W. Kenneth Bishop, 93, of Telford, PA - beloved father and grandfather - passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at his residence.

Born to humble beginnings in Souderton, Pa, he was the son of the late John Christian Bishop and Margaret (Gehman) Bishop. He is survived by his loving wife, Marie A. (Kenney) Bishop.

A 1950 graduate of Souderton Area High School, Kenneth earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Bluffton College in Ohio. Initially teaching at several schools in the western Ohio area, Kenneth returned to his native Souderton area in the late 1950's - serving the students of the Souderton Area School District as a dedicated Earth Science teacher at Indian Crest Junior High School until his retirement in 1993. During that 30+ year span, he spent multiple summers at Franklin & Marshall College earning his Master's Degree in Education.

A harmony of intersecting interests characterized Kenneth's teaching tenure as well as his post-education pursuits.

A baseball player in college, he kept active in and around the sporting field of play. Including: competing in various local baseball, softball, and bowling leagues; coaching community Little League baseball and softball teams; serving each fall as a long-time ticket seller at SAHS varsity football games; serving each winter as a long-time scorekeeper at SAHS JV and varsity basketball games; and serving multiple summers as a timer and official at dozens of Souderton Community Swim Team meets. Always in action, Kenneth also brought his competitive spirit to the seemingly mundane but no less challenging completion of crossword and jigsaw puzzles.

Combining his commitment to community and service beyond education, Kenneth served two terms as a Council Member on the Telford Borough Council as well as a volunteer for several community organizations, including Pennridge FISH. He was also a long-time and regular donor to the American Red Cross, school and/or organization-sponsored blood drives- regarding such as not only the "right thing to do' but as a simple duty for anyone who cares about the well-being of others (particularly those in need).

Linking his love for music and the arts, Kenneth lent his voice as a member of the North Pennsmen Barbershop Chorus; assisted in the production (supporting his talented wife) of several plays and musicals at the Dutch Country Playhouse in Telford, PA; sang and danced while enjoying multiple musical concerts with his wife and friends; clapped loudly (sometimes) surreptitiously unwrapped hard candies while witnessing multiple regional and school theatrical productions (many starring and/or directed by his wife, Marie or daughter, Lori), and spent hours with his ear to his home stereo enjoying, extolling and emulating (with varying results) the harmony-rich melodies of artists from multiple genres.

Merging his wanderlust and passion for driving long distances, Kenneth spent the initial fifteen years of his post-education retirement as a special events bus driver for Transportation Services of Souderton, PA - blissfully transporting school sports teams, classes, and organizations to far-flung competitions, field trips, and conferences.

Compounding his love for outdoors and gardening, Kenneth spent countless hours keeping the bunnies at bay while hardily harvesting as much bounty as one small backyard plot could produce. Kenneth was known for dutifully distributing his surplus vegetables to his neighbors, family, and friends (particularly zucchini). Adding on his baking boldness, Kenneth expressed his love language by gifting to unsuspecting (though always grateful) loved ones his famous zucchini bread and oddly scrumptious zucchini chocolate cake.

We will long remember Kenneth's fondness for the Four Freshmen, Frank Sinatra, and the warm, life-affirming fraternity of his family, friends, and fans of Philadelphia sports (particularly Temple University Football - Go Owls!)

In all and most importantly, Kenneth leaves us with a legacy of humble fortitude, honorable character, wry (often playfully naughty) humor, and quiet (but no less deep) caring... all expressed with an easy and genuine smile.

In addition to his wife, Marie, Kenneth is survived by his children: Lori Maxwell and her husband Jeff of Telford, PA, John Bishop and his wife Christine of Churchville, PA, and Colleen Strong and fiancé Jon Luse of Norristown, PA; and four grandchildren: Paige Bishop, Aubrey Maxwell, Brianne Koffs (and husband Jake), and Collette Strong.

Kenneth was raised in a large household with nine siblings - with which an ongoing communal connection (with them and their families) was always near and dear to him. His siblings, all of whom predeceased him, are: Clara Colburn, John J. Bishop, M. ruth Benner, Franklin Bishop, Margaret Delp, C. Edward Bishop, Richard Bishop, James Bishop and Dorothy Nelson.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in memory of Kenneth to the Keystone Opportunity Center of Souderton, PA           (keystoneopportunity.org ), the Indian Valley Education Foundation ( sasdnation.org ) or the American Indian College Fund (collegefund.org).

Arrangements made by the Sadler-Suess Funeral Home & Crematory, 33 N. Main Street, Telford, PA 18969.
