Obituary

Richard A. Packard of Perkasie, PA, and formerly of Yardley, PA, and Carteret, NJ, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Twp., PA.  He was 70 years old.

He was the loving husband of 19 wonderful years of the late Wendy Cynthia (Rhodes) Packard until her passing on November 30, 2015.

Born in Rahway, NJ, and raised in Carteret, he was the oldest of four sons born to the late Albert and Julia (Vincze) Packard.

Following his graduation from Carteret High School in 1971, he entered the military, was honorably discharged, attained the rank of Sergeant First Class (E7) before retiring on November 26, 2012.  He worked as a government administrative for the Lockheed-Martin Corporation for five years until retiring.

He was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Perkasie.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Richard was a member of the National Rifle Association as well as the Souderton-Harleysville Game, Fish & Forestry Association.  During his younger years, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Star Landing Post No. 2314, Carteret.

An animal lover, he enjoyed watching classic monster movies with his beloved dog, Boo.  Richard was quite the social butterfly who loved to dance and to travel especially on cruises.  He will be remembered for his sarcastic wit and bevy of jokes. He also had a knack for cooking particularly ribs.

He is survived by three brothers, Keith Packard and his wife Barbara, Drew Packard and his wife Joann, and Douglas Packard and his wife Kathy, all of Carteret; seven nieces, Geraldine Heldring and her husband Jamie, of Wayne, PA, Denise Sanfilippo and her husband John, of Carteret, Nicole Scholz and her husband Robert, of Fords, NJ, Candace Medvetz, of Chapin, SC, Kristin Blauer and her husband Mike, of Brick, NJ, Madison Medvetz, of Somerville, NJ, and Brianna Medvetz of Avenel, NJ; a nephew, Steven Packard, of Carteret; and many grand nieces and grand nephews.

His Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the Suess-Gahman Funeral Home, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA, where family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.  Interment will follow in St. Stephen's United Church of Christ Cemetery where he will be united with his beloved wife, Wendy.
