Reverend James
B. Elliott, Jr.
March 4, 2023
On Saturday, March 4. James B. Elliott Jr. entered the presence of his Lord while holding the hand of his wife Ruth, Jim was 86 years old.
Jim was born on March 14, 1936, in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, the son of James and Clara (Snyder) Elliott. Growing up in South Jersey, Jim attended Audubon High School and excelled in athletics. He was the oldest of three; sister Kathleen Thompson (deceased) and brother William "Bill" (Rosemarie) Elliott. While at AHS, he met Ruth Ehly of Runnemede. They would marry on March 5, 1955, and would have celebrated their 68 th wedding anniversary a day after he passed away.
Jim and Ruth spent 2 years in Germany while serving in the U. S. Army. While in Germany, Ruth gave birth to their first child, Vicky (Nace). When they returned to the U.S. they settled in Barrington, New Jersey. During this time they had their second child, James.
Jim worked for the Burroughs Corp. Sensing a call to the ministry, Jim enrolled at the Philadelphia College of the Bible. He was ordained into the ministry at Haddon Height Baptist Church, Haddon Heights New Jersey. Jim and Ruth became missionaries with BCM International in camping and youth ministry.
"Pastor Jim" served as minister of youth and evangelism at Blackhawk Baptist Church in Fort Wayne IN. He would go on to serve as associate pastor of Calvary Church, Souderton, Pennsylvania and senior pastor of Halethorpe Community Church in Baltimore, Maryland. A graduate of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, Jim also completed a doctor of ministry degree at Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary.
Jim and Ruth returned to Souderton in 2001. Despite the challenges of MS (multiple sclerosis), Jim remained active in retirement, serving as chaplain with Marketplace Ministries and on the board of directors for North Care Women's Clinic and Missionary Projects Fellowship.
"Pastor Jim" was loved by many for his passionate heart for sharing Christ, expository preaching, boisterous laugh, and along with Ruth, his warm hospitality. He enjoyed the shore, was an avid reader, Philadelphia sports fan and competitive game player (and questionable score keeper!).
Most of all, Jim loved God, scripture and his family: wife Ruth: children: Vicky (Brian) Nace of Souderton, son Jim (Karen) Elliott of Chicago; grandchildren Michelle (Stephen) Wilson, Miriam (Edward) Schroeder, Megan Nace (Chuck Cook), Joshua (Jessica) Elliott and Jessica Wagel; and five great granddaughters Maddie, Violet, Hunter, Eleanor, Alice (and soon to be Claire).
A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for Saturday, April 1, 2023 (no fooling!) at Calvary Church, 820 Route 113 Souderton, Pennsylvania 18964 at 11:00AM. Family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until time of service at the Church. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made in Jim's memory to: North Care Women's Clinic, 311 N. Broad St. Lansdale, PA. 19446 or online at: https://northcarecommunity.org/donate/
