Kogel
February 2, 1936 – November 14, 2025
Phyllis Margaret Kogel, of West Rockhill Twp., PA, passed away Friday, November 14, 2025, at her home. She was 89.
She was the loving wife of the late John C. Kogel until his passing on December 23, 2015.
Born in Muncy, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ray W. and Pauline S. (Smith) App.
A 1954 graduate of Muncy High School, she attained her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Cedar Crest College, Allentown, PA, in 1958 and studied abroad at L'Universite la Sorbonne in France. She went on to earn her Master's Degree in Education and teaching certificate from a culmination of language and history courses at Harvard University, Cambridge University and Yale University.
Mrs. Kogel began her 62-year professional teaching career in 1958 in Schwenksville, PA, before teaching for over 20 years in South Williamsport, PA, and then in Quakertown, PA. Finally, she worked at Pennridge and Quakertown School Districts until she officially retired as a substitute teacher in 2020.
She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church Ridge Valley, Sellersville, PA, where she had served as President on the Church Council.
A history and genealogy enthusiast, Mrs. Kogel was a member and Past President of the Unami Creek Questers Group in Bucks County, and a 50-year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Having a love for the arts and music, she was a season pass holder at the Philadelphia Art Museum and she was a 20+ year VIP member of the New York Opera. In her younger years, she volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader. She loved to travel, especially to the shore and, notably, she enjoyed over 20 trips to Europe.
She is survived by a daughter, Kristen Allis Urffer, of Sellersville, PA; a brother, Leon App, of Sandston, VA; and several other family members.
Mrs. Kogel was wise, respected, elegant and will be lovingly missed, in grace.
Services will be announced at a later date.
