Patrick J.
Mcnulty, Jr.
March 11, 1944 – October 5, 2025
Patrick J. McNulty, Jr., of Sellersville, PA, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and dogs while listening to Irish music at his secondary home in Lansdale, PA. He was 81.
He was the loving husband of Alice Ann (Selditch) McNulty. The couple had celebrated their 59th Wedding Anniversary on August 27, 2025.
Born on March 11, 1944, in Cape May, NJ, he was the oldest of eight children of the late Patrick J. Sr. and Alma (Reader) McNulty. He was a graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School, Philadelphia, PA.
He graduated from LaSalle College in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management Degree. He attended ROTC during his four years at LaSalle and was commissioned as an Army 2nd Lieutenant. He then entered active duty. He also attended Ranger School from which he graduated in March 1967. In August of 1967, his first child was born ten days before he landed in Vietnam to serve in the war as an artillery forward observer.
On November 7, 1967, Patrick was severely wounded by a mortar round but continued to accurately direct fire toward the enemy. He was wounded a second time that day by a grenade and still kept going. Even though he was severely wounded himself, he organized litter bearers and assisted medics. His acts of valor on that day earned him the Silver Star.
He was sent to Japan Army Hospital, where he spent one month recovering from the injuries that had been inflicted by the mortar and grenade. He was then sent back to Vietnam on December 28, 1968. He was wounded for a third time by a mortar round. While he was being stabilized in the evacuation hospital, he was wounded for the fourth time, as the hospital was attacked by rockets and mortars. He spent one and a half years in Walter Reed Hospital recovering from his injuries. He was awarded four Purple Hearts for his injuries during active duty. Thereafter, he endured countless surgeries during his lengthy hospitalization. In June 1969, he returned to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he served as a battery commander and battalion adjutant. He retired as a Captain.
Patrick attained his MBA from Temple University in 1974. He worked for Ford Motor Company as a senior industrial engineer for 30 years until retiring. While working full-time for Ford, he built a house by himself. He did his own electrical work, plumbing, flooring, roofing, drywall – essentially everything was done by him. He was the textbook definition of a "do-it-yourselfer."
As a world traveler, he loved to travel. He especially enjoyed 25 trips to Hawaii, 20 trips to each Ireland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Czechoslovakia, as well as four trips to Australia, and week stays in smaller European countries. A favorite destination was Walt Disney World, Orlando, FL, where he vacationed with his family over 25 times.
He was also known for his love of saving money and being thrifty. He had a mindset that "If there is no coupon for it, why buy it?" He kept himself busy by maintaining his six properties and spending time refurbishing his historic house. Patrick John McNulty's motto is: "The difficult we do today, the impossible, takes a little longer."
He had also undergone Pistol Marksmanship Training, where he achieved the highest level, the highest distinguished expert for right-handed. Impressively, he was able to do that even with disabilities in an eye and an arm. Moreover, no one had ever achieved that honor within 40 years in his gun club, which made him the first to earn it after four decades. He had also been working on attaining the distinguished expert for left-handed, and he was about 95% of the way through completion.
An all-around handyman and talented woodworker, Mr. McNulty loved making and fixing clocks, as well as fixing cars and roofs. And, he will be remembered for his passion for donating carloads of food to provide Thanksgiving meals for those in need in Philadelphia, Allentown, Quakertown, Doylestown and via the Pennridge FISH Organization.
Patrick was living proof that attitude is everything. He was a loving father and grandfather and his family honors his example of extreme courage, valor, and devotion to his family and country.
He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Sellersville, PA. .
Surviving with his wife are five children, Patrick J. McNulty, III, and his wife Debra, Sean K. McNulty, Alice Ann Friends, Letitia McCrae and her husband Sean, and James J. McNulty and his wife Katrina; 11 grandchildren; three brothers, Joseph McNulty and his wife Marianne, James McNulty and his wife Kath, and John McNulty and his wife Mary; and two sisters, Teresa McNulty and Mary McNulty.
