Patricia G. Shirkness, of Doylestown and formerly of Dublin, PA, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Doylestown Hospital, Doylestown, PA. She was 88.
Born on December 7, 1936, in Washington, PA, she was the daughter of the late Mildred (Hensler) and Marshall Graham, M.D.
A 1954 graduate of Washington High School, Washington, PA, Patricia earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics from Penn State University, in 1958, and was a member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma National Sorority.
In October of 1958, she married the late Richard D. Shirkness with whom she had celebrated 62 years of marriage until his passing on May 31, 2020.
Patricia was very active in both school and public libraries, having worked part-time in Berwyn as a Library Aide and also volunteered at the high school library. Then, she worked part-time for the Bucks County Free Library first as a circulation clerk at the Yardley Branch and later as a clerk at the Perkasie Branch.
She also was an active member of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hilltown, PA, where she volunteered with the altar cleaning group, served as a Eucharistic Minister and Sacristan, played in the Bell Choir, helped with the Food Program and was active with the Bible Study Group. While in Berwyn, she sang in the St. Monica Catholic Church choir. After moving to Yardley, PA, she served as an aide with St. Ignatius Catholic Church CCD Classes and volunteered as an aide for the Friends Food Program.
An avid reader, Patricia loved to knit particularly blankets and Christmas stockings.
Patricia is survived by her six beloved children, Mary Dubyk and her husband Brian Howard, of Perkasie, PA, Richard D. Shirkness and his wife Kim Whitworth, of Athens, AL, Thomas B. Shirkness and his wife Christy, of Kutztown, PA, Mark D. Shirkness and his wife Barbara, of Louisville, KY, Patty Welsh and her husband Bill, of Toms River, NJ, and Christopher Shirkness and his wife Megan, of Holland, PA. She was also a very devoted and beloved grandmother affectionately called "Nana" to 12 wonderful grandchildren, Kyle, Matthew, Margaret, Emily, Andrew, Zachary, Jessica, Ryan, Eric, Erin, Keira, and Shannon; and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her two sisters, Margaret Trahiotis and her husband Tino, of Connecticut, and Mary Carney and her husband Dave, of Oregon.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 100 Broad Street, Hilltown, PA, where family and friends may call from 9:30 to 10:15 AM prior to the service. Interment beside her husband will follow in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hilltown.
