Obituary

Norma Irene Grosik of the Lutheran Community at Telford died on Tuesday, March 7, 2023.  She was 93.

Her parents were Arthur and Maude (Williams) Mervine.  Norma was born in 1930, in the small town of Reinerton in Schuylkill County, the heart of Pennsylvania's coal mining region.  Her family moved to the Mayfair section of Philadelphia when Norma was in grade school.  She joked that possibly the best epiphany in moving from a small upstate town to the city was that the bathroom was actually inside the house.

Norma was the much beloved wife of Edward Grosik.  Norma and Ed were high school sweethearts; theirs was a real-life love story.  They would have been married for 73 years in June.

Norma kept the family and home going while Ed was at work.  While she ran a tight ship, she was a proponent of hugs and treats.  She learned to be a great baker, kept the best ice-cream stocked freezer in the neighborhood (possibly the state…), and would want us to include that she was a dedicated chocolate lover.  She had a green thumb in the garden and frequently indulged in her favorite pastimes of bridge and pinochle.

While her children were school age, Norma volunteered at their schools and in the parish church (particularly St. John Bosco) and, later in life, at local charities and the Lutheran Community.  She really enjoyed hosting holidays and neighborhood parties, and learning everything that she could about the many places where she and Ed traveled, often with their neighborhood friends.  She cherished her long time and dear friends from Mayfair, Frankford High School, Warminster, Westlake (Ohio), and the Lutheran Community.  She was happiest when spoiling her family, and especially fond of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Norma is survived by her daughters, Linda Walsh (Bob Lee), Carol Clark (Joe), Janet Flood (Jim), her daughter-in-law, Cindy Grosik, eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her dear husband, Ed, her son, Edward, her grandson, Evan Clark, and her siblings, Arthur Mervine, Virginia Jones, and Rhea Kane.
