Matthew John Castagna, of Houston, TX, passed away suddenly on Monday, June 10, 2024, at his home.  He was 41.

Born in Bay Shore, NY, and raised in Deer Park, NY, he was the son of Bruce A. and Ann T. (Costello) Castagna, of Sellersville, PA.

He graduated as the Salutatorian of the Class of 2001 from Deer Park High School, where he excelled in athletics.  He was Captain of both the football and baseball teams, playing the positions of quarterback and catcher respectively.

Matt went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, in 2005, where he also played football.

He was a proud U. S. Marine Corps Veteran and Cobra Pilot, serving in Afghanistan and Djibouti during his enlistment from 2007 to 2017 and attaining the rank of Major.

Following his service with the Marines, Matt was employed in several positions leading to his relocation to Houston.

In addition to his love for sports, he was an avid reader.

Surviving with his parents are three stepchildren, Shea, Trot and Foxx; a brother, Michael Castagna and his wife Lauren, and their three children, Jake, Gavin and Ava, all of Warren, NJ; his paternal grandfather, Gus Castagna, of Coram, Long Island, NY; and his former wife and friend, Suzanne Castagna, of Doylestown, PA.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, June 24, 2024, at the Suess-Gahman Funeral Home & Crematory, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA, and from 9:30 to 10:45 AM on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 N. Main Street, Sellersville, PA.

Family and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at the Church followed by interment with military honors in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.
