Mary F. Seyler, of East Rockhill Twp., PA, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Harborview Rehab & Care Center at Lansdale, Lansdale, PA. She was 85.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Lief Sr. and Dorothy (Howell) Mortensen. A 1955 graduate of Norristown High School, Norristown, PA, she attained her Associate's Degree in Safety Management from DeSales University, Center Valley, PA.
Following her college graduation, she began her career in safety management and instruction with Universal Millwright, Perkasie, PA, as a safety coordinator. Then, from 1970 to 1987, she served as the Pool Manager for Menlo Park, Perkasie. After receiving paramedic training through the second class ever offered by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Mary founded and was the first medic for "Medic 108" of Quakertown, PA, with her medic vehicle often stationed at the Menlo Pool.
Over the course of 50 years, Mary also worked for the American Red Cross, Philadelphia, first as a volunteer and eventually as a staff instructor and trainer, training other instructors and trainers as well as the general public in CPR, water safety and first aid, until retiring in 2013.
Following her retirement with the Red Cross, she taught water safety to children at the former Highpoint Racquet Club, Chalfont, PA, until 2020. She will also be remembered for her love for rug braiding.
Mary was a life member of the Perkasie Fire Company & Ambulance, and she also volunteered with the Central Bucks and VMSC Emergency Services over the years. Mary served as the Emergency Management Coordinator for East Rockhill Township until 2013.
She is survived by three children, Paul C. Seyler, of Allentown, PA, Dale R. Seyler, of Perkasie, and Deborah E. Godshall and her husband Chris, of Mocksville, NC; four grandchildren, Christine Seyler, Brenton Seyler and his wife Jennifer Schau, Brianna Godshall and Jessica Godshall; and two great-grandchildren, Layla and Elwood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Lief Mortensen, Jr., in 2004, and a daughter-in-law, Nanette Seyler, in 2018.
Her Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at the Suess-Gahman Funeral Home, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA, where family and friends may call from 10:30 to 11:00 AM.
