Obituary

Mary Elizabeth (Flad) Richards, 96, of Hilltown Township, PA, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2022. Born: In Easton, PA, the daughter of Florence H. (Miller) Flad and Harlan E. Flad, Sr. Mary Elizabeth was a very active member of the Easton High School class of 1944. She was a graduate of Ursinus College, Class of 1948, studying elementary education. She taught at The Sharon Hill School District in Sharon Hill, Pa.

She was married to John C. Richards for 62 years and they raised five children together. Mary Elizabeth was known to be a hard-working wife and mother, and she devoted much of her time to support the individual and varied goals of each of her children. Being trained as a teacher, she made it her life's mission to enrich her children's education at home through many hands-on activities and supportive endeavors. She was famous for her "To Do" lists and the spirit of working on tasks together. She also believed in devoting her personal time to others through volunteer work and keeping up with others through prolific cards and letters.

Survivors: She is survived by four children, John H. Richards (Nancy) of Ambler, Diane E. Chisdak (John), of Fogelsville, Clifford T. Richards of Atlanta, GA, and Susan R. Lennon (Joseph) of Quakertown. She had eight grandchildren (John Thomas, Laura, Michael, Sarah, Rachel, Emma, Rebecca and Abby); four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Janet M. Richards and brothers, Oliver "Bud" Flad and Harlan E. Flad, Jr.

Services:  Graveside Services will be held August 27, 2022, 11:00am at St. Luke's Union Cemetery (141 S. Main Street, Dublin, Pa. 18917) with lunch to follow at the West End Fire Company #2 at 12:00pm, (1319, Park Ave, Quakertown, Pa. 18951).  There will be a Zoom Link provided for both of these events for those unable to attend.  Please reach out to Diane at dchisdak63@gmail.com and share your preferred email address for this purpose.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the Decatur Cooperative Ministry for Project Take Charge, PO Box 457, Decatur, GA 30031 (son Clifford's social program to help those in need)
