Obituary

Mary Ellen "Dolly" Tyson, formerly of Quakertown, PA, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Souderton Mennonite Homes, Souderton, PA.  She was 92.

She was the loving wife of 72 ½ years of Henry K. Tyson having celebrated their anniversary on September 1, 2023.

Born in Bedminster Twp., PA, she was the daughter of the late Luther E. and Marian (Headman) Gruver.  She was a 1949 graduate of Sell-Perk High School, Perkasie, PA.

A secretary for over 40 years, Mrs. Tyson began her professional career working for St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Telford, PA, and later for Faith Baptist Church, Sellersville, PA. She worked for a number of years for Happy Viking Furniture, Hatfield, PA, as well as the Perkiomen School, Pennsburg, PA, before returning to employment with Faith Baptist Church. Then, she worked in the family business, Tyson Race Tours, Quakertown, for many years until retiring.

A member of RE:NEW Bible Church, Perkasie, PA, she was a former member of Faith Baptist Church, Sellersville, PA, where she sang in the Church Choir.

Having a passion for gardening, Mrs. Tyson was a member of the Perkasie Garden Club.  A NASCAR enthusiast, she enjoyed baking, working on puzzle books and birdwatching particularly hummingbirds.  She was especially fond of knitting and tending to her salt water aquarium.  And, she will be mostly remembered for her love for her roles of wife, mother and "Grandmom".

Surviving with her husband are four children, Bonnie Lou Tyson, of Pennsburg, PA, Darlene Kay Belac and her husband Marc, of Green Lane, PA, Mary Lynette Culpepper and her husband Thomas, of Midlothian, VA, and James Henry Tyson and his wife Evelyn, of Red Hill, PA; nine grandchildren, A. Dale Jr., Stephanie Anne, James, Rachel, Rebecca, Erin, Sara, Silas and Levi; three step grandchildren, Joey, Jarrick and Alisha; 12 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Christiana, Elijah, David, Jonathan, Ethan, Emily, Dominic, Amelia, Liam, Orion, and Mackenzie; a great-great-grandson, Carter; a brother, Luther "Bud" Gruver, of Coopersburg, PA; and a sister, Judith Kulp, of Hatfield, PA.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Leanne Tyson, in infancy, a step grandson, Chris Belac, a brother, Ronald Gruver, and three sisters, Janet Warren, Marjorie Coll, and Betty Lou Gruver.

Her Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 13, 2024, at the Summit View Auditorium, Souderton Mennonite Homes, 207 W. Summit Street, Souderton, PA, where family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.  Interment will follow in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Perkasie, PA.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Souderton Mennonite Homes Agape Fund, 207 W. Summit Street, Souderton, PA  18964 OR to the Grand View Hospice, 18 South Fifth Street, Quakertown, PA  18951.
