Mary Ann Catherine (Litsch) Spier, of Ottsville, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Monday, August 24, 2026, at her home. She was 71.
She entered into this world on November 26, 1954, in Tamaqua, PA. She was the firstborn daughter of the late John Litsch and the late June (Heisler) Litsch Deesing. Throughout her life, she fostered many friendships and positively impacted many lives.
After graduating from Pennridge High School in 1972, she obtained her LPN (Licensed Practical Nursing) Degree.
Mary Ann married the love of her life, Donald Edward Spier, in 1977 and the couple enjoyed 20 years of marriage until his passing on October 3, 1997.
She began her career in nursing, which gave her the opportunity to provide care and warmth to others. Although she had many occupations, the most notable and meaningful included nursing, day care, and raising her three children. She loved children, and watching them grow, develop and gain confidence and independence brought her great joy.
Her good nature, loving, caring, generous, courageous and compassionate spirit made a lasting impression on her colleagues, family and friends.
She enjoyed many hobbies during the course of her life, including traveling, flea marketing, and shopping with her family. Her collections included jewelry, stuffed bears, snowmen, Longaberger baskets and mementos from the places to which she traveled. She played bingo, card and board games, and liked music, reading, and watching television and movies with those she loved.
She is survived by her three children, Katherine H. and Donald J. Spier, both of Ottsville, PA, and Daniel E. Spier and his husband Ghadafy, of Quakertown, PA; two sisters, Anne M. Bearns, of Sellersville, PA, and Deborah A. Nace and her husband William M., of Quakertown, PA; many nieces and nephews; and all of those whose lives were enriched because of her.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her stepfather, Edward Deesing; and her brother, John Litsch.
She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on through all the love and kindness that she brought into this world and will remain in the hearts of those that knew her.
Family and friends are invited to attend her Graveside Services to be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 28, 2026, in Kellers Church Cemetery, 3668 Ridge Road, Perkasie, PA.
