Marie C. Applegate, formerly of Hilltown Twp., PA, passed away Monday, March 3, 2025, at Phoebe Richland, Richlandtown, PA. She was 91.
She was the loving wife of 56 years of the late Clarence E. Applegate until his passing on October 7, 2011.
Born in Hellertown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Mary E. (Nicholas) Ganssle.
A homemaker, Mrs. Applegate worked as a secretary for Bethlehem Steel in her early years until leaving her employment to raise her family.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hilltown, PA, where she volunteered with the Church Carnival.
A member of the Citizens Band Radio Club, Mrs. Applegate was active with the Pennridge Senior Center, Perkasie, PA, and belonged to a Pinochle club. She especially enjoyed taking bus trips with her husband over the years as well as painting ceramics and birdhouses. She was proud to have crocheted a pair of baby booties for each of her grandchildren. Her most important accomplishment and greatest joy was "loving my Big Family".
She is survived by ten children, Linda Beer and her husband David, of Quakertown, PA, Kenneth Applegate, of Perkasie, PA, Scott Applegate and his wife Kathleen, of Hilltown, PA, Gene Applegate and his wife Kathy, of Quakertown, PA, Eric Applegate and his wife Mary Beth, of Tylersport, PA, John Applegate and his wife Lori, of Clermont, FL, Mary Koenig and her husband Greg, of Springtown, PA, Kelly Cox and her husband Steve, of Quakertown, James Applegate and his wife Kristen, and Charles Applegate and his wife Beth, of Milford Twp., PA; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Audrey Cawley, of Freemansburg, PA.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 100 Broad Street, Hilltown, PA, where family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Hilltown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 100 Broad Street, Hilltown, PA 18927.
Arrangements are by the Suess-Gahman Funeral Home & Crematory, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA.
