Marian Evelyn
Closs
Jun 4, 1936 — Aug 6, 2026
Lansdale, PA
Marian Evelyn (Schirmer) Closs, of Montgomeryville, PA, passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Hospital – Grand View Campus, Sellersville, PA, on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the wonderful age of 90.
Born on June 4, 1936, in New Castle, PA, she was the daughter of the late Arcon H. and Evelyn M. (Wright) Schirmer. She was the third child of four and the only girl.
On October 19, 1957, she married the late Russell A. Closs, Sr., of the Mount Airy Section of Philadelphia, celebrating 45 years of marriage until his passing on October 9, 2003.
During her youth, she worked at a small coffee factory on Walnut Street in Lansdale, PA, and then, shortly, after her marriage, she became a “stay-at-home mom” for the rest of her life.
Mrs. Closs was a lifelong member of Montgomery Square United Methodist Church, North Wales, PA.
She was a lover of all animals but especially dogs of the Poodle and Cocker Spaniel breed, and over her 90 years, she had taken in and cared for many dogs for their entire life treating them with the utmost care and spoiling them rotten. At the time of her death, she was proudly bragging that she had five dogs, and those dogs will be in the care of her daughter, Sandy, for the rest of their lives.
Mrs. Closs loved the warmth of summer and could often be found outside gardening in the 90-plus-degree weather with no problem. In addition to watching her soap operas, she had a passion for listening to old school country music. In her younger years, she enjoyed camping with her family including yearly camping trips to Myrtle Beach, SC. She also was fond of taking day trips over the years.
She will be remembered for her goofy sense of humor and being stubborn in her own way; but, she was very loved by all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her dogs.
She is survived by her four children, Russell A. Closs, Jr. and his wife Deborah, of Telford, PA, Linda E. Scheetz, of Lansdale, PA, Harold A. Closs and his wife Susan, of Perkasie, PA, and Sandra E. Joyce and her husband Richard, of Telford, PA; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and five dogs. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Robert and David Schirmer.
“Our ‘Family Queen’ has joined in Heaven with the ‘King’ of the family. We miss you both dearly Mom and Dad! Forever in our hearts!”
Services will be announced shortly.
