Obituary

Louretta Anne Shaffer, formerly of Millsboro, DE, Maryville, TN, Fort Myers, FL, Cornwells Heights, PA, and Baltimore, MD, passed away Friday, November 15, 2024, at Woolwich Gardens Assisted Living, Woolwich Township, NJ.  She was 83.

She was the loving wife of 55 years of the late George Courtney Shaffer until his passing on July 26, 2022.

Born in Camden, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Ludwig and Theresa (Dufresne) Buch.  A 1959 graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School, Gloucester City, NJ, she attained her Nursing Degree from the St. Francis School of Nursing, Trenton, NJ, in 1962.

Mrs. Shaffer began her decades-long nursing career as a Registered Nurse at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD.  Then, she worked for Shriners Children's Hospital, Philadelphia, for a number years before employment with the Lee County Hospital in Florida.   Finally, she was the Nursing Director for the State of Florida in Children Medical Services for over 20 years until her retirement.

An avid reader, she was especially talented in arts and crafts.  Mrs. Shaffer had a great interest in family history and genealogy.  A dedicated supporter of the SPCA, she loved dogs and cats.  An outdoors enthusiast, she was fond of camping, hiking and traveling in her Airstream R.V. highlighted by a trip to Alaska and many National Parks.  Mrs. Shaffer was known to be a passionate supporter of Democratic causes.  Most of all, she will be remembered as a loving wife.

She is survived by a niece, Jeanne Marie Law, of Gloucester City, NJ, and a nephew, Tim Law and his wife Dawnette, of Pilesgrove, NJ.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Theresa Law and her husband Frank.

Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the Blooming Glen Mennonite Cemetery, 713 Blooming Glen Road, Blooming Glen, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bucks County SPCA, 60 Reservoir Road, Quakertown, PA  18951.

Arrangements are by the Suess-Gahman Funeral Home & Crematory, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA.
