Kenneth L. Gnau, of Quakertown and formerly of Red Hill, PA, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at LifeQuest Nursing Center, Quakertown. He was 90 ½ years old.
He was the loving husband of 62 years of the late Barbara R. (Diernback) Gnau until her passing on April 6, 2018.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Kenneth Joseph and Anna May (Opferman) Gnau. A 1950 graduate of Northeast High School, Philadelphia, he attained his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from La Salle University, Philadelphia, in 1961. He attended Villanova University, Villanova, PA, from 1961 to 1963 where he studied Mechanical Engineering.
He proudly served with the U. S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 until being honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1954.
Mr. Gnau began his professional career with SKF Industries, Philadelphia, for 17 years before working as a foreman for Colt Firearms, Hartford, CT, for three years. Then, he was employed as a General Manager, first for EMICO, Inc., Dublin, PA, for 16 years, and later for Scott Communications, Hatfield, PA, for six years. Upon retiring there, he worked for Quakertown Bank as a part-time teller.
He was an active member of the former First United Methodist Church, Perkasie, PA, where he taught Adult Bible Class.
Mr. Gnau served on the Pennridge School Board for eight years and the Selective Service System for ten years. A member of the Board of Directors of the Perkasie Park Association, he served as its President for three years. He was a sports enthusiast and spectator, especially of baseball. He will be remembered as having a strong faith and a love for studying the Bible.
He is survived by two loving daughters, Donna M. Bonar and her husband Gary, of Zionsville, PA, and Carrie Gnau Cafiero, of Blue Bell, PA; two granddaughters, Lindsey and Mia Wavrek; and a sister, Margaret Geary, of Atco, NJ. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence "Larry" Gnau, and a sister, Ethel Manassey.
Funeral Services and interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
