Joyce Witwer Murphy, a former 84-year resident of Perkasie, PA, and a former 5-year resident of Sellersville, PA, passed away Monday, October 24, 2022, at Hidden Meadows on the Ridge, West Rockhill Twp., PA, where she resided the past four months. She was 89.
She was the loving wife of Robert E. Murphy until his passing on May 28, 1985.
Born on July 4, 1933, in Perkasie, she was the daughter of the late Edward W. and Tisinana "Tess" (Jordon) Witwer. She was a 1951 graduate of Sell-Perk High School, Perkasie.
Mrs. Murphy worked in shipping and payroll for Prodesco, Inc., Perkasie, from 1960 until retiring in 1998. Previously, she was employed as a telephone operator for the Bell Telephone Co., Quakertown, PA. During her teenage years, she ran the Menlo Pool bathhouse in Perkasie and sold tickets at the Sellersville movie theater.
She was a lifetime member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Perkasie.
Following her retirement, Mrs. Murphy enjoyed traveling with friends, especially to San Diego, Bermuda, and Niagara Falls. Her earlier travels were highlighted by a trip to Super Bowl XXXI in New Orleans in January 1997. She also enjoyed playing cribbage, having yard sales, and decorating her front yard.
A member of the Philadelphia Zoo, she loved animals and took in many stray cats and dogs over the years. She and her best friend, Janet Woulfe Keller, both having been born on the Fourth of July, were members of the Philadelphia Yankee Doodle Club. They both loved fireworks and everything red, white and blue.
Mrs. Murphy's family wants to thank the wonderful staff at Hidden Meadows, the Laurels, for their care and deep caring for her for the last four months of her life.
She is survived by a daughter, Colleen Murphy Landes and her husband Glenn, of Sellersville; a sister, Ruth Fuller, of Virginia Beach, VA; and six nieces and three nephews and their families. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Joseph E. "JEM" Murphy on August 5, 2015.
Funeral Services with interment in St. Stephen's United Church of Christ Cemetery, Perkasie, will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by the Suess-Gahman Funeral Home, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA.
