Joyce M
Malin
May 10, 1943 – September 1, 2025
Joyce M. Malin (neé Wannop)
Born in Norristown, PA to Stanley and Mildred (neé Miller) Wannop on May 10, 1943, Mildred Joyce Wannop presented her chubby-kneed self to the world. Having always disliked her given name, she changed it to Joyce M. Wannop. She grew up in a large family with seven younger siblings and many friends.
Her childhood was spent in Conshohocken and Plymouth Meeting. At Bishop Kenrick High School she was an honor student, managed the basketball team, and was in the theatre group. She continued her education for one year at Chestnut Hill College before she married in 1964. The honeymoon baby was named John Franklin and the following year she gave birth to her second son, Mark Stanley. Wanting a third child, her beautiful baby girl was named Jennifer Ann. This was the best decision she ever made, she often said.
As an avid cook and a wine enthusiast, Joyce also loved to garden. She volunteered for many years at Rose Valley Chorus as the prop manager and frequented the theatre in her spare time.
Joyce was selfless and caring, giving most of her time to family and friends. As a teenager, her mother relied on her to help with her siblings. Joyce was always there without hesitation. She was a lovely lady, refined, and classy, nurturing and comforting, intelligent and curious.
Her siblings Gayanne, Stanley, Lynn, Roberta, Christine, Jeannette, and David looked up to her as a role model and parent figure. A fond memory of her often comes to mind of when she was a young adult helping her mother. She could be a little chintzy with the Nestlé Quik in their milk! She was the best of both - thrifty while also generous.
When not in the garden, Joyce's grandchildren remember her knitting away. The best walks were walks with Grandma to the neighborhood playground. She fed them the forbidden sugary cereal and filled their summers with snuggles. She was known to them as having cold hands, soft earlobes, nevertheless a warm heart. She was always loving and kind, sweet and affectionate.
Joyce loved nothing more other than to spoil her grandchildren - Chasity, Cole, Andrew, Jesse, Maggie, and Charlie. She was thrilled to spend time with her great grandchildren Bryson and Logan.
Joyce's motherly nature drew her to spark conversation with every child she met at the market. She had a beautiful dainty smile that she shared with everyone. Joyce was chatty yet soft spoken. Sometimes overshadowed at large family gatherings, though, it would not have been the same without her. Now we remember her with great stories to tell. She will remain with us at every family function. No ifs, ands, or … (She didn't say that word.)
