December 2, 1933 – September 16, 2025
Joseph P. Miller, of Hilltown Twp., PA, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2025, surrounded by family and his two "girlfriends" – his cherished dogs, Gubby and Luna. He was 91.
He was the loving husband of the late Judith A. (Cowan) Miller until her passing on August 1, 1987.
Born in Newberry, MI, he was the son of the late Peter and Ella (Beaudette) Miller. He was a 1951 graduate of Newberry High School and attained his Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI. He earned his Master's Degree in Marine Biology from Virginia Institute of Marine Science, Gloucester Point, VA.
Mr. Miller was a proud U. S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, serving as an aircraft mechanic at the Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, NV, where he was honorably discharged in January 1956 after four years of service.
He was employed as a marine biologist with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, working and living in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Michigan and Florida over his 30 years of service Notably, he often served as a guest speaker for various nature and marine events throughout his career.
He was a nature enthusiast who especially enjoyed camping, boating and fishing. He had a passion for wildlife conservation, having volunteered in Alaska, following an oil spill accident where he helped save and clean animals. A talented woodworker, Mr. Miller enjoyed spending time in his own wood shop where he crafted furniture and other items such as Adirondack chairs and Christmas trees. An avid supporter of the SPCA, he also volunteered for many years as a coach for the Pennridge Little League.
He is survived by two children, Michael J. Miller, of Telford, PA, and Melinda "Mindy" Moyer, of Sellersville, PA; four grandchildren, Mitchell and Madison Miller, and Callie and Tessa Moyer. He was preceded in death by four siblings, Ruth Martell, Marilyn Frasure, Leonard Miller and Virgene Swanson.
His Graveside Services with military honors will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Trinity Cemetery of Telford, 222 E. Broad Street, Telford, PA. A Celebration of Life Luncheon will follow at 12:00 Noon at the Franconia Heritage Restaurant, 508 Harleysville Pike, Telford, PA.

Arrangements are by the Suess-Gahman Funeral Home & Crematory, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA.
