Joseph C.
Harkins Iii
January 20, 2003 – June 22, 2025
Joseph C. "Joey" Harkins III, of Hilltown Twp. PA, passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 22, 2025. He was 22.
Born in Abington, PA, he was the son of Joseph C. Harkins II and Tricianne (Gillespie) Harkins.
Joey was a 2024 graduate of West Chester University, West Chester, PA. He earned a baccalaureate degree in Supply Chain Management and minored in German (which he spoke fluently) and was the Commencement Speaker at his December graduation. As a student at West Chester University, Joey served as a Resource Pantry Worker, was coordinator of the Period Project, and Secretary of the West Chester University Forensics Speech and Debate Team. He was International Public Debate Association Champion (two times), PARLI Champion, and Pennsylvania State Champion in Speech and Debate in 2023. Joey was a member of Pi Kappa Delta Honor Society, President of the Supply Chain and Business Club, and Vice President of the German Club. Joey was intellectually gifted and was recognized as a genius having an IQ score of over 140. He was a 2021 graduate of Pennridge High School, Perkasie, PA, where he had the lead role in the high school play in his senior year.
He worked at various companies throughout his college career, doing internships in supply chain management. He spent a summer abroad, visiting Germany, Austria, and London. In Germany he had the chance to visit with his foreign exchange "brother" Florian.
Joey had a heart full of joy and knew what he wanted out of life. He got the nickname "Switzerland" from his family when he was younger, as he never took sides; he was always the peacekeeper with everyone. Joey loved his family and all of his siblings. He loved to find ways to relax, which included fishing, camping, star gazing, and exploring nature. A creative child, he loved to play with LEGOS and the creativity that went along with it. He even built his own computer. He was an avid Philadelphia Flyers hockey fan and an ardent fan of Star Wars. You could always find Joey lying on the floor playing with his little brother Logan. Joey loved the simple life. You would never find a brand name on any of his clothes; he loved the thrift store.
He is survived by his mother Tricianne Harkins of Sellersville, father Joseph C. Harkins II and his wife Allison, of Malvern, PA, and his six siblings, Nina, Amy, Colin, Logan, Alex, and Anderson; maternal grandparents, Joseph E. Gillespie and his wife Patricia, of Lansdale, PA. and a paternal grandmother, Bonnie Harkins, of Northeast Philadelphia, PA, numerous aunts and uncles, 34 cousins, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Joseph C. Harkins Sr., his uncle, Tomme Gillespie, and his cousin, Megan Beaumont.
