John L. Sahr, of the Sellersville, PA, and formerly of State College, PA, passed away Friday, August 14, 2020, at his residence. He was 86.
He was the husband of the late Anna E. (Wardell) Sahr.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late John L. and Mildred J. (Nazarro) Sahr. He was a 1951 graduate of Jersey City High School.
Mr. Sahr worked as a manager for New Jersey Carbide, Jersey City NJ, and later for Federal Carbide, Tyrone, PA, for a combined total of over 50 years until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Sellersville, PA, and a former member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, State College.
Mr. Sahr was a member of the Woodbridge Elks Lodge No. 2116, Woodbridge, NJ, where he served as an Exalted Ruler. He also volunteered as an advocate for seniors with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program in State College for many years.
A sports enthusiast, he loved baseball and was an avid football fan, especially of Penn State University Football and Philadelphia Eagles Football. He owned a restaurant in Vermont and was particularly fond of the culinary arts.
He is survived by five children, Anne Ongaro and her husband, David W., of High Bridge, NJ, Elizabeth Sahr Eirmann and her husband Jonathan, of Pleasant Gap, PA, John Joseph Sahr, of State College, Christina Boyce and her husband Peter, of Sellersville, PA, and Mary Fulloon and her husband Jeffrey, of Romney, WV; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marie Wolfstirn, of Milesburg, PA. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Sahr.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 21, 2020, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 N. Main Street, Sellersville, PA, where family and friends may call from 9:00 to 9:45 AM. Interment will be held at a later date in the Centre County Memorial Park, State College, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 N. Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960.
Arrangements are by the Bernard Suess Funeral Home, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA.
