Obituary

John H. Gabel, of Perkasie, PA, died Wednesday, November 19, 2014, in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Twp., PA. He was 83. He was the husband of the late C. Lorraine (Hauck) Gabel, who died March 27, 2000, and the late Caroline J. (Antell) Gabel, who died November 6, 1974. Born in Tylersport, PA, he was the son of the late Simon E. and Elizabeth M. (Howland) Gabel. He was a 1949 graduate of Sell-Perk High School, Perkasie. A U. S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, he was stationed in Germany and attained the rank of Corporal. Mr. Gabel was employed as a machinist and welder, beginning his career with the Lansdale Nipple Co., Lansdale, PA, which later merged into Olney Pipe, Albany, NY, where he worked until retiring after 55 years in 2012. He was a long-time member of Peace-Tohickon Lutheran Church, Perkasie, where he served as a Liturgical Reader and Head Usher. Mr. Gabel was a member of Keelersville Club, where he was Past Financial and Recording Secretary. An avid cook and reader, he was particularly fond of baseball, especially the Philadelphia Phillies. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and playing softball. He is survived by a daughter, Pamela R. Gabel and her life partner, Stacy Mann Gabel, of Ann Arbor, MI; two grandchildren, Erica Lee and Samuel Vincent Gabel; a great granddaughter, Lailah; a brother, Clair Gabel and his wife Elizabeth, of Perkasie; and two sisters, Ruth Lewis, of Quakertown, PA, and Rose Gabel, of Arlington, VA. In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by a son, Mark Scott John Gabel, on January 17, 2013. His Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at Peace-Tohickon Lutheran Church, 100 Old Bethlehem Road, Perkasie, PA 18944, where family and friends may call from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service. Inurnment will follow in Tohickon Union Cemetery, Weisel, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church at the above-named address. Arrangements are by the Bernard Suess Funeral Home, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie.
