Jessie Thomson
Poland
June 15, 1927 – December 3, 2023
Jessie Poland, of The Community at Rockhill in Sellersville and formerly of Quakertown and Feasterville, Pennsylvania, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023, in her daughter's home. She was 96.
Jessie was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on June 15, 1927. She was the wife of the late John Poland, the daughter of the late Joseph and Laura Thomson, and the sister of the late Nathan Thomson and Naomi Kraus. She is survived by her son John Poland and her three daughters: Susan Pritt, Jennifer Oakes, and Kathy Ridge. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter.
Jessie was a woman of deep faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was an active member of Feasterville Baptist church, where she helped with the Pioneer Girls group for many years. When she moved to Quakertown, she became a member of First Baptist Church in Perkasie, where she sang in the choir, helped with Sunday School and youth ministries, and was an integral part of Connections, their group for seniors.
Jessie was known and loved for her joyful outlook on life. Through pain, loss, and physical challenges, her sweet spirit and attitude cheered everyone around her. She was a constantly active homemaker and farmwife, helping her husband John with crops and caring for animals: chickens, horses, hundreds of pigs, many steers, and a cow or two which she milked by hand.
At the age of 92, she published a book: This is My Story: From Icebox to Internet, a memoir of her life.
Jessie's life will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at The Community at Rockhill in the Multipurpose Room, 3250 State Road, Sellersville, PA, where family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
