Obituary

Jay D. Sowers, of Perkasie, PA, passed away suddenly on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Grand View Hospital, Sellersville, PA.  He was 80.

He was the loving husband of 40 years of the late Deborah C. (Shaak) Sowers until her passing on January 17, 2003.

Born in Sellersville, he was the son of the late Charles Merril and Ruth K. (Bleam) Sowers.  A member of Pennridge High School Class of 1962, Perkasie, he graduated from the Allentown Police Academy in 1967 and the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in 1968.

Jay was employed by the former U. S. Gauge, Sellersville, from 1962 to 1965.  Then, he served as a Police Officer for the Borough of Perkasie from 1965 to 1972.  From 1972 to 1973, he worked for Moyer Meat Packing, Silverdale, PA, before working as a salesman for M & S Oil Company & Texaco Distributor in Perkasie from 1973 to 1996.  Lastly, he was the Head Facilities Manager at the Pennridge Upper High School building for the Pennridge School District from 1996 until retiring due to illness in 2003.

He was a member of St. Andrew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perkasie, PA.

Jay and his nephew, Scott, were avid collectors of gas-powered model race cars of which they were one of the large collectors of the cars in the United States.  He also collected Crosley & Fageol overheard cam engines.  He loved his 1962 Chevy Corvette which he and his companion of 15 wonderful years, Melody Diehl, drove from Perkasie to Old Route 66 in Chicago, continuing on the old road to where it ended in Santa Monica, CA, in 2008.  He also owned several other vintage vehicles.  Jay and Mel also made the Route 66 trip both ways in 2016.

A 50+year Life Member of the Perkasie Fire Co. No. 1, he was a member of the AMRCA America Miniature Racing Car Association, as well as the Good Time Motorvators Car Club, Sellersville, where he served as Club Treasurer for many years.

He is survived by two children, LaCinda Ann, of Quakertown, PA, and her two sons, T. J. Kaminski, Jr. and his wife Melanie, and Tyler Charles Kaminski, and David Jay Sowers, of Hatfield, PA, and his children Alicia Johnson, Zachari Dennis Sowers and Amy Melissa Sowers; a great- granddaughter Remi. Also surviving with his companion, Melody, are her two sons Ron Diehl and his wife Kristin and Ryan Diehl and his wife Jennifer; her four grandchildren, Harlie, Ryan, Mason, and Hunter; a nephew, Duane Scott Sowers, of Perkasie, PA, and a niece, Brenda Kay Gouldey and her husband Wes, of Plumsteadville, PA.  In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James M. Sowers.

His Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM on December 3, 2024, at the Suess-Gahman Funeral Home & Crematory, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA, where family and friends may call from   9:30AM to 11:00AM. Interment will follow in St. Andrew's Union Cemetery, Perkasie, PA.
