Larson
March 29, 1941 – July 18, 2024
James E. Larson, of Perkasie, PA, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at his home. He was 83.
He was the loving husband of Tamara L. (Hoagland) Larson. The couple would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on August 3, 2024.
Born in Hubbard, OR, he was the son of the late Harold E. Larson and Jessie Mae (Long) Hubbard Wachtman. A 1959 graduate of Sweet Home High School, Sweet Home, OR, he went on to earn his Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR, in 1971.
He served in the U.S. Marines from 1959 to 1963, stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
Jim worked as a Mechanical Engineer for the Ethyl Corporation, Richmond, VA for over 20 years, retiring in 2003. Prior to that, he was employed by Laclede Steel, Alton, IL for 15 years. He was member of the Society of Automotive Engineers.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Deep Run, Perkasie, PA and a former member of the Swift Creek Presbyterian Church, Midlothian, VA where he served as an Elder, Deacon and Clerk of Sessions.
Later in life, Jim became a Certified Gun Smith, working in a gun shop in Emmaus, PA. An award winning wood worker, he was a member of the Belleville Holzchnitzers Wood Working Club, Belleville, IL. In his spare time, he loved hunting, fishing and boating.
Surviving with his wife is a son, Eric J. Larson and his wife, Diane, of Perkasie, PA; two grandsons, Garrett Cooper Larson and Carter James Larson and a brother, Robert "Bob" Larson and his wife Karen, of Oakdale, MN, as well as a sister-in-law, Joyce (Hoagland) Horat in Kerrville, TX., a brother-in-law, Don Crapnell in Mountain Home, AR. and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Laurie Annette and Leslie Lynette Larson.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 26, 2024 at the Presbyterian Church of Deep Run, 16 Irish Meeting House Road, Perkasie, PA, where family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in the church cemetery columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Church of Deep Run, 16 Irish Meeting House Road, Perkasie, PA 18944.
Arrangements are by the Suess-Gahman Funeral Home & Crematory, Perkasie, PA.
