James J
Kain
July 31, 1927 – August 3, 2023
James J. Kain, 96, of Doylestown, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2023, surrounded by his best friend, Peggy Lewis, and friends Bruce Lewis, Kristin Smith, Kevin Mallon & Chaplain Phyllis Ward. He was the devoted husband to the late Rosemary Gavasso Kain who passed away in 1997, the couple having celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary that year.
Born in Philadelphia, James was a son of the late Aloysius and Mary (Miles) Kain. He graduated from North Catholic High School, attended two years of college, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served in World War II. After retiring from the Navy, James began his thirty-nine-year career with The Philadelphia Gas Works Company as an Engineer.
He held many interests throughout his life, particularly a passion for music. As a member of the Avalon and Polish American String Bands, James was heavily involved with The Philadelphia Mummers. James also ballroom danced and played piano, accordion, and guitar. Additionally, James loved adventure and was a member of The Philadelphia Glider Council in Hilltown. He was a lively person and up until two months before his passing, James had the strength to use the swimming pool, play volleyball and even drive his car.
James was a dedicated member of Our Lady Sacred Heart Church and volunteered in the kitchen at The Pennridge Community Center where he baked cinnamon buns. There he even received the nickname 'The Ambassador' because he wanted to make sure everyone felt welcome. James also had the gift of knowing what a person needed just by looking into their eyes. If you were blessed enough to know Jim, you were one of the fortunate ones. His love for life and caring for others went far beyond what was expected of him.
James is survived by a son, James Leon Kain of Weatherly, PA and a stepson, Paul Pietrak, of Arizona. He is also survived by a brother, Edward Kain, a grandson, Michael Andrew Kain, and two step grandchildren, Michael, and Mark Pietrak. James is pre-deceased by four brothers and four sisters.
Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held at 1:30 PM on August 17, 2023, at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road. Newtown, PA. 18940.
Memorial contributions can be made in James' honor to the Pennridge Community Center 146 East Main St. Perkasie, PA. 18944.
Arrangements are by Sadler-Suess Funeral Home, 33 N. Main Street Telford. www.sadlersuessfuneralhome.net.
