Obituary

Homer Schwenk, 85, of Souderton, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022, at the Souderton Mennonite Home. He was the husband of the late Eleanor (Derstine) Schwenk who died in 2001.

Homer was born in Quakertown, PA on October 22, 1937. He was one of nine children of the late Clarence and Dorothy (Hildebrand) Schwenk.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Kay Moyer and brothers Carl, Edward, Robert, and dear friend and companion, Carol Finnemeyer.

Homer is survived by his sister Pauline and brothers Galen, Richard and Larry; children Richard (Melissa), Nancy (Elliott), Bryan (Anne) and Kendra (Steve); grandchildren Alycia, Justin, Isabelle, Tyler, Aaron, Dashawna, Christian, Vanicia, Julia and Brady.

Homer was a devoted husband, outstanding father and loving grandfather to his 10 grandchildren.  He enjoyed attending and supporting his grandchildren's sporting events and special occasions where he was their #1 fan.

Homer resided on West Reliance Road in Souderton, PA for over 50 years. He loved farming and was most well known for growing amazing strawberries and lending a helping hand to anyone who needed help.  He was happiest when he was outside, hunting, fishing, cutting wood and caring for a menagerie of animals throughout his life, including chickens, rabbits, sheep, guinea pigs and dogs. He was a fixture in local restaurants where he would socialize and connect with friends and family on a daily basis.  His good-natured teasing and joking brought a smile to many faces throughout his life.

Homer was a dependable, loyal, hardworking employee of over 45 years at Longacre Poultry in Franconia.  Following his retirement he held several part-time jobs until recently when his health declined.

Homer was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Phillies fan, enjoyed speaking Pennsylvania Dutch, riding around his property on his John Deere tractor, and feeding and watching the birds that visited his many bird feeders.
