Hans Joachim Sumpf, of Perkasie, PA, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, PA. He was 73.
He was the loving husband of Sarah Anne (Luddy) Sumpf. The couple would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on August 19, 2023.
Born in Brandenburg, Germany, he was the son of the late Gerhard Sumpf and Erika (Meier) Schroder.
Hans was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in Vietnam in the late 1960s.
Hans was known for his selflessness, hard work, and dedication to the numerous organizations he led. He worked as a computer systems analyst for 26 years for the Prudential Insurance Company and an additional 17 years for the Aetna Insurance Company, retiring in 2017.
Hans was a member of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hilltown, PA, where he served as a church usher for over 30 years.
Devoted to his community and service to others, he coached boys and girls soccer in the Deep Run Valley Sports Association, Hilltown, PA. He also served as President for over 15 years until 2022. He was a longtime member of the Blackthorn Rugby Club, Horsham, PA, where he served in various board positions, currently serving as club treasurer.
Hans was a member of the Hilltown German Club, serving as President for the past 5 years, the Souderton American Legion Post 234 and the Telford VFW Post 5308.
Surviving with his wife are four daughters, Julianne Marie Sumpf and her partner Steve Saurman, of Willow Grove, PA, Lara Kathleen Godshall and her husband Blair, of Telford, PA, Trish Ann Millard and her husband Alexander, of Crozet, VA, and Colleen Michelle Davis and her husband Cody, of Harleysville, PA; eight beautiful grandchildren; a brother, Ralph Sumpf and his wife Donna, of Lansdale, PA and two sisters, Karin Renner, of Perkasie, PA and Heidy Clark and her husband Martin, of Horsham, PA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Juergen Sumpf.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Our Lady Of The Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 100 Broad Street, Perkasie, PA, where family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in St. John Neumann Catholic Cemetery, Chalfont, PA.
