Skridul
October 27, 1928 – September 23, 2022
George L. Skridul, of Silverdale, PA, and formerly of Long Island, NY, passed away Friday, September 23, 2022, at his home. He was 93.
He was the loving husband of 57 years of the late Anita (Wallak) Skridul until her passing on May 19, 2014.
Born in Hoboken, NJ, and raised in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Frank and Monica Skridul. A 1946 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, he was a graduate of the Mechanics Institute, New York City, NY, where he studied drafting and machine design. He attended New York City Community College in Brooklyn, from 1954 to 1958.
Mr. Skridul was a proud U. S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, serving as a Machinist in Japan before being honorably discharged in January 1953.
He was employed as a mechanical engineer for East/West Industries, Inc., Hauppauge, NY, from 1972 until retiring in 1989. Previously, he worked for Republic Aviation, Farmingdale, NY, in Research & Development, where he designed military aircraft and worked on the space programs. Earlier in his career, he worked for the Sperry Gyroscope Co., Martins Instrument Co. and Ruf Machine Co., Inc.
Catholic in faith, Mr. Skridul was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Long Island, NY.
Known as an exceptional cook with memorable recipes, he enjoyed an occasional game of golf and watching videos on "YouTube." An outdoors and nature enthusiast, he looked forward to taking walks at the Peace Valley Nature Center as well as hunting in his early years.
He is survived by two children, Robert G. Skridul and his companion Carol Botdorf, of Larchmont, NY, and Diane S. Giokaris and her husband Alan, of Mount Kisco, NY; a grandson, James Giokaris; and a sister, Frances Mollyn, of Bedminster, PA.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, September 30, 2022, at the Suess-Gahman Funeral Home, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa Chapel, 654 Ferry Road, Doylestown, PA. Interment will follow in the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery, Doylestown.
