Shaffer
July 22, 1939 – July 26, 2022
George Courtney Shaffer, of Millsboro, DE, and formerly of Blooming Glen, PA, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Accent Care Hospice, Wilmington, DE. He was 83.
He was the loving husband of 55 years of Louretta A. (Buch) Shaffer, having wed on Friday, January 13, 1967.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Delilah (Brown) and George William Shaffer, M.D.
A 1958 graduate of Pennridge High School, Perkasie, PA, he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the Pennsylvania Military College, West Chester, PA, in 1962. He went on to attain his Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law, Baltimore, MD, in 1965.
Mr. Shaffer was a self-employed realtor for 32 years in the Bensalem area of Bucks County, PA, and also in Ft. Myers, FL, until retiring in 1999. He was the President of Shaffer and Associates and a member of the Board of Realtors.
A member of the Sons of the American Revolution organization, he was an avid football fan, especially of Philadelphia Eagles Football, who loved boating and playing tennis. Mr. Shaffer was a travel enthusiast who particularly enjoyed taking cruises and visiting the National Parks. Notably, he hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to New Jersey.
Surviving with his wife are a brother, Mark Shaffer and his wife Elizabeth, of Fairfax, VA; a sister, Cynthia Marinelli and her husband Anthony, of Coral Gables, FL; a niece, Allison Rice and her husband Chris, of Boise, ID; a nephew, Michael Shaffer, of Fairfax; and a great niece, Katie.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at the Blooming Glen Mennonite Church, 713 Blooming Glen Road, Blooming Glen, PA.
Graveside Services will follow at 12:15 PM on Saturday at the adjacent Blooming Glen Mennonite Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bucks County SPCA, 60 Reservoir Road, Quakertown, PA 18951.
Arrangements are by the Bernard Suess Funeral Home, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA.
