George Mitchell MacLaren, of Perkasie and formerly of Horsham, PA, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023, at his home. He was 93.
He was the loving husband of 65 years of the late Ella Marie (Dreyer) until her passing on June 9, 2021.
Born in Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late John Scott and Elizabeth (Howieson-McVikar) McLaren. He was a 1948 graduate of Glenolden High School, Glenolden, PA.
Mr. MacLaren was employed as a letter carrier with the U. S. Postal Service, in the Roxborough Section of Philadelphia, PA, for 29 years until retiring in 1991.
A former member of Trinity Orthodox Presbyterian Church, Hatboro, PA, he was a member of First Orthodox Presbyterian Church of Perkasie, Perkasie, PA, where he served as Treasurer and Greeter. Earlier, he was a member and Deacon of the Maple Glen Bible Fellowship Church, Maple Glen, PA.
Mr. MacLaren particularly enjoyed collecting stamps and coins. He was an avid sports fan, especially of Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees Baseball. He loved listening to Gaither Vocal Band music and tending to his gardens.
He is survived by three children, the Reverend Richard Scott MacLaren, of Perkasie, Dr. George Albert MacLaren and his wife Barbara, of Suffolk, VA, and John Andrew MacLaren and his wife Kate, of Horsham; seven grandchildren, Amanda Grace MacLaren, Andrew John MacLaren, James Duncan MacLaren, Aresman Adams MacLaren, Graham Reagan MacLaren, Genevieve Marina Perkey, Dierdre Natalia MacLaren-Ilichuk; and three great-grandchildren, Matvei Ilichuk, Victoria Ilichuk and Annia Perkey. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ian, Roy and Andrew McLaren.
His Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at First Orthodox Presbyterian Church of Perkasie, 121 North Fifth Street, Perkasie, where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00 PM.
Graveside Services with interment will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 18, 2023, in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, 1169 Limekiln Pike, Ambler, PA.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Orthodox Presbyterian Church of Perkasie, c/o 441 Dorchester Lane, Perkasie, PA 18944.
