Obituary

George F.  Kern, of Silverdale, PA, passed away Monday, March 25, 2024, at the Community at Rockhill, West Rockhill Twp., PA.  He was 90.

He was the loving husband of Mary B. (Bowman) Kern.  The couple had celebrated their 27th Wedding Anniversary on September 7, 2023.

Born in Allentown, PA, he was the son of the late Arthur and Katie (Mell) Kern.  He was a 1951 graduate of William Allen High School, Allentown.

Mr. Kern was a proud U. S. Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1953 to 1956 as a combat photographer and  having been stationed in Korea.

He began his working career as a self-employed electrician during the late 1950's through the early 1960's.  He went on to work as an electrician for the General Electric Company for many years before his long-time employment with Air Products, Trexlertown, PA, retiring there in 1998.

Mr. Kern was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perkasie, PA.

He was a member of the Macungie V.F.W. Post No. 9264, Macungie, PA.  He had a passion for fishing, especially on Seeley's Bay in Ontario, Canada.  Mr. Kern loved working with wood, crafting furniture and bird houses.  And, he enjoyed bowling in his younger years.

Surviving with his wife are two children, Jane Scrak and her husband Richard, of Bethlehem, PA, and Cindy Kern, of Mertztown, PA; two stepchildren, Michelle Johnson and her husband Darren, of Trappe, PA, and Alex Grande IV and his wife the Rev. Leah Woehr-Grande, of Stevens Point, WI; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and a brother, Robert Kern and his wife Lucy, of East Greenville, PA.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherri Wagner; and five brothers, Arthur, David, James, Frederick and John Kern.

His Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 19 South Fifth Street, Perkasie, PA, where family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.  Interment will follow in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Perkasie.
