George Buchanan, 69, of Souderton, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at his home.

Born in New Jersey, he was a son of the late Donald F. and Doris Mae (Burrell) Buchanan.

He served as a professor for Montgomery County Community College teaching Earth Science and Geology. Prior to teaching, he was employed as a consultant/ geologist for the former RMC Corp. and Cowan Associates for over 25 years.  George held a Master's Degree in Engineering Geology from Drexel University, a Master's Degree in Environmental Science from Drexel University, and a Master's Degree in Earth Science from West Chester University.

In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family especially his granddaughters.  He enjoyed collecting model cars, music, playing various stringed instruments including the guitar, mandolin, violin and banjo. He was a true "rockhound" involving family vacations around rock collecting. He did enjoy teaching Earth Sciences and Geology at Montgomery County Community College which he did for over 15 years. He always referred to teaching as "my retirement".

He is survived by a son, Jonathan of Renton, WA, a daughter, Heather Demeno and her husband Dan of Roslyn, PA, a brother, Frank Buchanan of New Jersey, a sister, Carol Burger of Tennessee, and two granddaughters:  Ava and Aria.

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Little Zion Lutheran Church, 267 Morwood Road, Telford, PA 18969. (For GPS please use 799 Bergey Road, Telford).  Interment will be at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania, Office of Development, 100 East Northwestern Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19118.  Arrangements by the Sadler-Suess Funeral Home, Telford.
