Obituary

Gene P. Clever, of Hilltown Twp., PA passed into the arms of his Savior Sunday, July 3, 2022, at his home.  He was 87.

He was the loving husband of Doris Valjean (Klingensmith) Clever. The couple had celebrated their 62 nd Wedding Anniversary on June 25, 2022.

Born in Vandergrift, PA, he was the son of the late Lindsey "Pete" and Mary E. (Daugherty) Clever. Gene (Jake, to his family) grew up across the road from Doris' family farm and they, along with his siblings, walked to the one-room schoolhouse which was a mile away and through a field with a bull in it. He would fondly recall many shenanigans he and his brothers were involved in during school.

He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, having proudly served his country from 1952-1956. He served both stateside, and in Germany. After his discharge, he attended school in Pittsburgh, on his GI bill.

Gene's work brought him to Levittown, PA and then to Clinton, TN. He retired in 1997 and moved back to Pennsylvania to be with his family. Wherever he and Doris resided, they made life-long friends through their church and community.

He was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church, Perkasie, PA. He and Doris were part of many groups at the church and enjoyed wonderful friendships with his church family.

Gene enjoyed being outside, gardening, wood working, and reading. Gene loved the mountains and he and his family spent a lot of time at the family camp in Elk County, PA. He taught his children how to hunt and fish, and he passed on his love of the woods and mountains to them. He was a strong independent man. He had a quick wit, and loved a good joke or pun.  He was happiest when he was spending time with his family, and dog Scooter. Gene had a special connection with his great grandson KJ who was born on his 87 th birthday.

Surviving with his wife are two children, Keith Clever Sr.  (Faith), of Levittown, PA, and Renee Clever (Ken Gaun), of Buckingham, PA; three grandchildren, Keith Clever Jr. (Katie), Ashleigh Burger and Lindsey Burger; a great-grandchild, KJ; two sisters Joyce Richey of Apollo PA, and Sally Wall of Kingwood, TX. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Clever and Clyde Clever, and a sister Dona McAninch.
