Obituary

Gary A. Smith, of Souderton, PA, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Twp., PA.  He was 67.

He was the husband of Tamara A. (Barnhouse) Smith.  The couple had celebrated 13 wonderful years of marriage.

Born in La Rochelle, France, he was the son of the late William and Adele (Litterer) Smith.  He was a 1974 graduate of Hatboro-Horsham High School, Horsham, PA.

Gary proudly served with the U. S. Navy from 1974 until being honorably discharged in 1977, attaining the rank of Machinist Mate.

He was employed by the Hatfield Quality Meats Co., Hatfield, PA, for seven years until retiring in 2017.  Previously, he worked for NAPA Auto Parts, Horsham, for ten years, and, before that, he was employed for 20 years by the MOPAC Meat Co., Souderton.

A former member of Grace Bible Church, Souderton, PA, Gary attended Re:New Bible Church, Perkasie, PA.

An avid reader and fisherman, Gary enjoyed times spent swimming with his children.  He was especially fond of traveling and cross country camping with his family, including trips to Alaska and Canada.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Aurelia Grace Smith and Autumn Joy Smith, both of Souderton; three stepchildren, Kathleen "Katie" Gallen and her husband Todd, of Media, PA, Kevin Winfree, of Souderton, and Christopher Winfree, of Norristown, PA; two grandchildren, Oliver and Darcey Gallen; a brother, Gene Smith and his wife Peggy, of Bensalem, PA; and a sister, Adele Blackman and her husband Michael, of Orofino, ID.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Smith.

Family and friends are invited to attend his Graveside Services with Military Honors to be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Crossroads Women's Center, 1401 N. Fifth Street, Perkasie, PA  18944.

Arrangements are by the Suess-Gahman Funeral Home, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA.
