September 11, 1933 – November 2, 2024
Frederick K. "Fred" Slopey, formerly of Newtown, PA, peacefully passed away Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the Community at Rockhill, Sellersville, PA. He was 91.
He was the loving husband of MaryAnn (Wagner) Slopey. The couple had celebrated their 67th Wedding Anniversary on September 14, 2024.
Born in Mill Hall, PA, he was the son of the late Charles and Mae (Bressler) Slopey. A 1952 graduate of Lock Haven High School, Lock Haven, PA, he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Art Education from Kutztown University, Kutztown, PA, in 1956. He went on to attain his Master's Degree in Education from Temple University.
He was a proud Veteran of the U. S. Army, serving Stateside from 1956 to 1958.
Mr. Slopey was employed for over 30 years as an art teacher with the Bristol Township School District, Levittown, PA, having taught at the Woodrow Wilson/Harry S. Truman High School where he retired in 1989. He also taught pottery classes at the Bucks County Community College, Newtown, during the late 1970's.
Mr. Slopey was a member of Newtown Baptist/Grace Point Church, Newtown for several decades where he volunteered on many projects using his artistic skills.
While growing up in Mill Hall PA, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a fondness for the outdoors.
His true passion was pottery; both creating and mentoring others in the craft.
Surviving with his wife are four children, Alan K. Slopey and his wife Sheryl, of Warrington, PA, Kathleen M. Slopey, of Feasterville, PA, Nancy L. Stoner and her husband Gregory, of Fayetteville, WV, and Mark S. Slopey and his wife Regina, of Richlandtown, PA; three grandchildren, Jessica Slopey, Gabby Slopey and Olivia Slopey; a brother, Charles Slopey, of Fort Lauderdale, FL; a sister, Audrey Barnes, of Sebastian, FL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Slopey.
His Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 8, 2024, at the Community at Rockhill All-Purpose Room, 3250 State Road, Sellersville, PA, where family and friends may call prior to the service from 10:30 to 11:00 AM or following the service. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.
Arrangements are by the Suess-Gahman Funeral Home & Crematory, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA.
