Erma Ruth
Klinger
July 8, 1918 – October 14, 2023
Erma R. Klinger passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Lutheran Community at Telford.
She was the wife of the late Emil H. Klinger for 79 years and the mother of two sons, Richard D. (deceased), and Emil H. Klinger, Jr. She was a dedicated, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and always put the needs of others before her own.
She was born, at the home residence, in Rich Hill, PA to the parents of Anna & Enos Stump. She was one of nine children (five brothers, Melvin, Herbert, Harold, Richard, Franklin & three sisters, Mildred, Madeline (Arlene), Anna) and grew up in Rich Hill, PA and Trumbauersville, PA in a loving family atmosphere.
She received an eighth-grade education at a one room schoolhouse. After graduation she worked various jobs and eventually worked as a seamstress at various fabric companies and retired from Herman Iskin, Co., Telford, PA.
She met the love of her life at work and after her marriage to Emil H. Klinger on December 31, 1940, they lived together in Quakertown, PA for a brief time prior to purchasing a farm in Bedminster, PA. They worked the farm in Bedminster, PA for a short period prior to moving back to Emil's family-owned farm in West Rockhill Township in early 1942.
Erma was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Quakertown, PA, with regular lifelong attendance until health issues prevented safe attendance. She was longtime resident of West Rockhill Township and one of the Charter members of the West Rockhill Historical Society. She made many friends and memories, over the years, and was loved by all and will be missed by many.
As a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother she was proud of the continued family namesake heritage of Emil, Emil Jr, Emil III, and Emil IV with hopes of an Emil V in the future. She is survived by one son, Emil H. Klinger, Jr, (Barbara J), of West Rockhill Township, two brothers; Richard Stump (Ruthann) of Quakertown, PA, and Franklin Stump (Diane) of Trumbauersville, Louise Klinger (wife of deceased Richard D. Klinger) of Shelly, PA, seven grandchildren, Charles Weil, Victor Weil, Keith Weil, Brian Weil, Richard Klinger, Jr., Stacy Smith, Emil Klinger, IV; 13 great-grandchildren,16 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
It is an extraordinary and exceptional feat to reach the age of 100, but to celebrate the age of 105 is even more uncommon, to be able to accomplish that and be physically as well as mentally healthy is remarkable. Erma Klinger had accomplished both. Her philosophy on living to 105 was: work hard, treat everyone like you want to be treated, go to church regularly, and don't drink or smoke.
Her hobbies were reading her daily scripture, word search, needle point, sewing, and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune on TV. Also, Erma and her husband Emil trained and danced with a group of square dancers that took first place in competition dancing at the Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg PA.
Services and interment will be private.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Erma's name may be made to West Rockhill Historical Society, P. O. Box 282, Sellersville, PA 18960.
Arrangements are by the Suess-Gahman Funeral Home, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA.
