Elizabeth "Liz"
Strunk
September 18, 1932 – August 24, 2024
Elizabeth Strunk (Docimo), a beloved matriarch, artist, and progressive thinker, passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on August 24, 2024. Born on September 18, 1932, in Paterson, New Jersey, Liz was a remarkable woman whose life was a tapestry of creativity, intellect, and love.
She was the cherished daughter of Rose Concetta Docimo (Parisi), who immigrated from Caserta, Italy, and Lawrence Augustus Docimo. Liz was a devoted sister to Phyllis Cherone (Docimo), who predeceased her in 2022. In 1969, she married Blaine Strunk, who also passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love and adventure.
A true Renaissance woman, Liz's passions were many. She excelled as a painter, sculptor, and theater director, showcasing her artistic talents throughout her life. For 44 years, from 1976 until her forced retirement due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, she served as the bookkeeper at the R&S Keystone Diner, where she was well-known and loved by patrons and staff alike. Together with her dear friend Patty Yost, she co-founded the Pennridge Adult Theater, which enriched the local arts community for over a decade. She also made her mark by directing plays at the Dutch Country Playhouse.
An avid reader with an extraordinary depth of knowledge, Liz could effortlessly discuss film history, the British monarchy—particularly the reign of Elizabeth I—and cozy mysteries. Her wanderlust sparked at a young age and flourished throughout her life, with multiple visits to Boothbay Harbor, Maine, Buck Bay, Canada, Great Britain, France, and Germany.
Liz is survived by her three sons, Keith (Laura), Sean (Suzanne), Kevin (Jan) Strunk, and nephew Larry Cherone. She was a proud grandmother, affectionately known as Grandmama, to six grandchildren: Trevor (Kristin), Caitlin (Domenic), Stephanie (Thomas), William (Falyn), Benjamin (Jessica), and Jennifer. Her legacy continues with ten great-grandchildren: Tilly, Oscar, Poppy, Maxwell, Bennett, Nicole, McKenna, Maddie, Kamryn, and Paityn.
To honor her remarkable life, a celebration of life will be held on her birthday, September 18, 2024, from 4 PM to 7 PM at the enclosed pavilion at Green Lane Park in Green Lane, PA.
Liz was a tough Italian lady who was ahead of her time, living her life with a progressive spirit and a wickedly unfiltered sense of humor. She brought joy, love, and countless adventures to her family, and her absence will be deeply felt. We love you, Liz, and will carry your vibrant spirit in our hearts forever.
