Edwin L.
Stover
February 6, 1943 – August 8, 2025
Edwin L. Stover, of Silverdale, PA, passed away Friday, August 8, 2025. He was 82.
For 60 years he was the loving husband of the late Eileen F. (Benner) Stover until her passing on April 21, 2024.
Born in Abington, PA, he was the son of the late Edwin and Florence (Luxton) Stover. He graduated from Williamson Trade School in 1963.
Mr. Stover had resided at his home in Silverdale for 50 years and for many years held a seat on the Silverdale Planning Commission.
He began his long career as an automotive mechanic and mechanical genius, by assisting his father at home in the driveway. From lawnmowers and racecars to bulldozers, backhoes and 18-wheel trucks, there wasn't anything he couldn't fix. First owning and operating the Sunoco Station at Welsh & Orvilla Roads, Hatfield, PA, during the 1960s. Then working for Lansdale Chrysler-Plymouth as Service Manager until 1970 before founding Covered Wagon Enterprises in Silverdale, PA, an engine rebuilding business that he operated until retiring in 2014.
Mr. Stover had a passion for cars, more specifically fast cars. He raced stock cars, dragsters, and street racers. If it had an engine, he could always make it go faster. He had several trophies from Hatfield Speedway, Grandview Speedway, along with Hatfield, Vargo, Atco and Maple Grove Dragways. And while not an actual trophy, Mr. Stover had the honor of driving Miss Daytona at the speedway in 1964.
He is survived by a daughter, Candy A. Tuttle, of Silverdale, PA; and two granddaughters. Melinda Tuttle and her two daughters, Grace Vera and Lily Scout; and Melissa Tuttle and her fiancé Rich Wasiuk. His "Susie" started calling him "Eddie" at 9-months old and that remained his name to both his granddaughters, and great-granddaughters. He was the big brother to three brothers and two sisters. His three brothers, Irwin Stover and his wife Marie, of Sellersville, PA, Raymond Stover, of Kulpsville, PA, and the late John Stover of Sellersville, PA; and two sisters, Carol Dunar and her husband Paul, of South Carolina, and Darlene Fosque and her husband Craig, of Delaware. Mr. Stover is also survived by his 98-year-old uncle, James Stover of the Lutheran Community in Telford. They were close throughout Edwin's life. And he is survived by many nieces and nephews, and cousins on both sides of his family.
Funeral Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by the Suess-Gahman Funeral Home & Crematory, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA.
