Edward Laverne Schmell , of Souderton, PA, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at his home. He was 68.
He was the loving husband of Joyce T. (Bivighouse) Schmell. The couple had celebrated their 37th Wedding Anniversary on April 2, 2025.
Born in Sellersville, PA, he was the son of the late Edward L. and Eleanor M. (Albright) Schmell. A 1974 graduate of Souderton Area High School, he attained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Health & Physical Education from King's College, Briarcliff Manor, NY.
Laverne was employed as a terminal operations manager for Roadway Express (later known as Yellow Express), Colmar, PA, for 20 years. Following his retirement there, he worked as a salesman for Bergey's Chevrolet, Lansdale, PA, until retiring due to illness.
He was an active member of Calvary Church, Souderton, PA, where he was a member of the Boys Brigade.
Laverne was a hard-working and dedicated father to both of his sons. While his passion was weightlifting and training at the gym, he especially enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean Islands with his wife to satisfy his love for the beach and the ocean. An avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan and hunter in his younger years, he was a member of the Upper Perkiomen Sportsmen's Association, Red Hill, PA. A member of the Freedom Valley H.O.G. Chapter, Sellersville, PA, he was particularly fond of riding his Harley motorcycle.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Roger T. Perry and his wife Stephanie, of Schwenksville, PA, and Jason T. Perry, of Telford, PA; and a sister, Carolyn L. Hunsberger, of Telford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Beverly J. Schmell, in 2009.
His Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Calvary Church, 820 Route 113, Souderton, PA, where family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
