Obituary

Dr. Patricia A. Guth of Perkasie, PA, passed away at PSL Pine Run Medical Center on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. She was 93 years old. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Dr. Buster A. Guth. They were best friends through 58 years of marriage.

Born in Palmerton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Mark Samford and Sarah May (Kern) Snyder. Dr. Guth’s life was enveloped in education and the music of life. She was a concert soloist for high school and college bands and was selected for district and intercollegiate bands. She loved attending performances of the Pennridge School District students not only during her teaching and administrative positions but following her retirement.

She was a 1954 graduate of Kutztown College with a BS in Elementary Education. Her MA with Reading Specialization was from the University of Pennsylvania in 1963. She also earned her Doctor of Education from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Guth began her career as an educator in the Central Bucks School District and transitioned to the Pennridge School District for 34 years as a teacher and an administrator. During those 38 total years in education, she held positions as Curriculum Assistant in Charge of Language Arts, Director of Elementary Education, Instructor for Pennsylvania State University Programs for Continuing Education, Bucks County Council of IRA (charter member and president), Keystone State Reading Association (chairman/committee member), PA Association of Federal Coordinators, Bucks County Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development President, and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. In 1992, when she announced her retirement, the Pennridge School Board renamed the Perkasie Elementary School as the Patricia A. Guth Elementary School in her honor.

At her retirement, Dr. John Slattery, superintendent of schools in Pennridge School District said, “Her firm commitment to excellence in education and her sincere caring attitude toward children has enabled Dr. Guth to become a leader in the educational system in Pennridge as well as Pennsylvania. Many programs and projects can be attributed to the efforts, time and hard work of Dr. Guth. The Long Range Plan, the Community Action Team, summer school, staff development, the Parenting Program, instrumental music, student assistance, drug and alcohol programs, federal programs and grants are just a few of the numerous contributions this extraordinary woman has made to the Pennridge School District.”

Dr. Guth was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Sellersville, PA.

Following retirement, she participated in local community activities through the Pennridge Senior Center and continued her passion for teaching at Kutztown University and East Stroudsburg University.

Her Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 104 Green Street, Sellersville, PA. Family and friends may call from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at the church before the service. Interment will be held privately in Union Cemetery, Slatington, PA.
