Obituary

            Dina Ann Caplan, of Huntingdon Valley and formerly of Philadelphia, PA, passed away Monday, June 29, 2026, at Jefferson Abington Hospital, Abington, PA. She was 62.

            She was the loving wife of Herbert “Herb” Michael Caplan. The couple had celebrated their 34th Wedding Anniversary on December 15, 2025.

            Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late John “Jack” and Dolores (Dreher) O’Connor.

            A 1981 graduate of Archbishop Ryan High School, Philadelphia, she attained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from La Salle University, Philadelphia. She went on to receive her first Master’s Degree in Education from Holy Family University, Philadelphia, before earning her second Master’s Degree in Education, Leadership & Administration and her Principal’s Certificate from Cabrini College, Radnor Township, PA.

            Mrs. Caplan began her 33-year career in education with the School District of Philadelphia as an English teacher at Castor Gardens Middle School before being named its Dean of Students and currently had served five years as its Assistant Principal.

            A member of the Pennsylvania Principals Association, she volunteered every Saturday for many years with cat rescue for the Lucky You! Animal Rescue, Bensalem, PA.

            Mrs. Caplan loved to organize and host parties, where you could always find her with a glass of red wine in her hand. An avid gardener, she enjoyed planting flowers, yoga and tap dancing. She was dedicated to watching her favorite television shows as well as visiting Broadway to attend shows there. She loved traveling with family and friends, having gone on 13 cruises. She will be remembered for her love to have fun and teasing her husband.

            Surviving with her husband are a daughter, Jennifer A. Hughes and her husband Jake M., of Huntingdon Valley; a stepson, Sean J. Caplan and his wife Kristen Kotsko, of Pittsburgh, PA; four grandchildren, Lauryn and Lindsey, and Noah and Emma; two sisters, Lisette Litwinczuk and her husband Walt, of Williamstown, NJ, and Karen O’Connor, of Lancaster, PA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a stepson, Jason Caplan, in 2023.

            The Family will receive friends at a calling period to be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, July 10, 2026, at the Suess-Gahman Funeral Home & Crematory, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA.

            A Celebration of Life Service will be held privately on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
