"Sonny" Jurin, Jr.
June 7, 1949 – February 14, 2025
Charles G. "Sonny" Jurin, Jr., of Hilltown, PA, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025 at his home. He was 75.
Born in Sellersville, PA, he was the son of the late Charles G., Sr. and Margaret W. (Diamond) Jurin. He attended Lansdale Catholic High School, Lansdale, PA.
He was a decorated U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War serving from 1966 – 1970. He was stationed in Vietnam with the 27th Land Clearing Task Force, 168th Engineer Combat Battalion, where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal w/ "V" Device, Vietnam Service Medal w/ 4 Bronze Service Stars, Sharpshooter (Rifle); a Purple Heart with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
After returning from Vietnam in 1970, he went on to graduate from the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Trade School, Philadelphia in 1973. He then worked as a Journeyman Carpenter for Local 1595 Carpenters Union, Philadelphia from 1973 until his retirement in 2015. After his retirement he went on to do private jobs in the area.
A devout Catholic, Charles was a member of Our Lady of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hilltown, where he had taught CCD and was a member of the Legion of Mary.
A member of the VFW Forrest Lodge Post #245, Sellersville, PA, and the Warren Royer American Legion Post #234, Souderton, PA, he was active with the American Legion Riders of Post 234. A member of the National Rifle Association, he was also member of the Cannoneers Sportsmen Club, Lansdale, PA, and the German-Hungarian Sports Club, Hilltown, PA, where he served as Trustee for many years. In his free time, he loved to ride his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, hunt, fish, shoot archery and reload his own ammunition.
He is survived by three sons, Benjamin Jurin and his wife Jane Rose, of Brooklyn, NY, Michael Jurin, of Brooklyn, NY and Jeremy Jurin and the mother of his children Cherice Barton, of Thousand Oaks, CA; two grandchildren, Summer and Willow Jurin; a brother, Dennis I. Jurin, Sr. and his companion Carol Rutkowsky, of Richlandtown, PA; four sisters, Margaret Hartley and her husband John, of Barto, PA, Maureen Dlugosz and her husband Jeffrey, of Hilltown, PA, Dorothy Gjurin and her husband William Friewald, of Abington, PA and Anne Marie Gross and her husband Richard, of Coopersburg, PA.; and the mother of his children, Debra Jurin, of Sellersville, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Baker.
His funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Our Lady of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 100 Broad St., Hilltown, PA 18927, where family and friends may call from 9:30 to 10:45 AM. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hilltown.
