Obituary

Carol A. Van Valkenburgh, of East Rockhill Twp., PA, passed away Monday, September 4, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family. She was 83.

She was the loving wife of Joseph D. Van Valkenburgh, V. The couple had celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversary on the day before her passing, September 3, 2023.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Helen (McMahon) McGinnis.

A homemaker, Mrs. Van Valkenburgh also was a partner and worked in the family business, Van Valkenburgh Plumbing & Heating, East Rockhill Township, as a bookkeeper as well as many other tasks.  A strong woman, she returned to school to earn her GED diploma while raising the couple's nine children.

A devout Catholic who was strong in her faith, she was a member of St. Isidore Roman Catholic Church, Quakertown, PA.

Mrs. Van Valkenburgh was a dedicated sports fan, especially of the Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles and Flyers.  She was talented in crocheting and enjoyed canning vegetables.  She was an avid reader, particularly of mystery novels with a special interest in Charlie Chan and Father Brown mysteries.  Most of all, she will be remembered for her love for her children and grandchildren.

Surviving with her husband are nine children, Joseph D. Van Valkenburgh, VI,  and  John "Jack" Van Valkenburgh, both of Sellersville, PA, Michael Van Valkenburgh, of Kintnersville, PA, Mary Schultz, of Quakertown, Edward Van Valkenburgh and his wife Donna, of Bally, PA, Cathy Ketterer and her husband Derek, of Cary, NC, James Van Valkenburgh and his wife Laura, of Allentown, PA, Steven Van Valkenburgh, of Perkasie, PA, and Matthew Van Valkenburgh, of Perkasie; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four brothers, Thomas McGinnis, of Lady Lake, FL, Frank McGinnis, of Brooklyn, Harold "Billy" McGinnis, of Farmingdale, NY, and John McGinnis, of Spring Hill, FL; and three sisters, Patricia Humprey and Kathy Merckling, both of Lady Lake, and Sharon Collins, of NE Leland, NC.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 11, 2023, at St. Isidore  Roman Catholic Church, 2545 West Pumping Station Road, Quakertown, PA, where family and friends may call from 9:00 to 10:00 AM.  Interment will follow in St. Isidore Catholic Cemetery, Quakertown.
